The Jets have 2 turnover machines at QB.

Geno was not turnover prone in college. He will cut down on the turnovers this year.

That team was 8-8 last year and is only getting better.

He sucked on Huard like a blow pop. His football knowledge rivals my 6 year old niece.

Vick wants to be a starter, I won't be at all surprised if Vick ends up starting at some point and time during the season. He may even make it real hard for the coaches to justify starting Geno, not so much because Vick is awesome, but more because Geno is inconsistent.

Vick was told that Geno was the teams starter before he signed.

Geno's last month was a big improvement.

I expect him to continue that upward swing in 2014.

Yet Alex stumbled? Alex will have a better year with less "name" players to throw the ball to.

with the HC's job on the line, I seriously doubt he will have a lot of patience with Geno but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Yet why sign a borderline starter to be backup? It's sounds a little like hedging their bets.

I sure do. Here's a hint. It doesn't have a goddamn thing to do with Geno Smith.

Because Michael Vick was a super talented player coming out of VT (probably the most talented prospect ever) that didnt dedicate himself to football until his talents had already begun eroding. That lead him to never winning anything. He was signed to be a quasi role model and to push Geno to take full advantage of the opportunity he has been given.

I'm not saying its impossible that Vick takes over as the starter at one point, he very well might, but that's not what he was brought in to do.

It also lends itself to Geno looking over his shoulder. I can see it now, the first time he throws a pick 6, the camera focusing on Vick on the sidelines.

The biggest part of being a success as a starting NFL quarterback is dealing with pressure situations and rising above them. If Geno doesn't take opportunities like this to improve his game and cement himself as the teams starter, a great deal of us were very wrong about his "upside"...myself included.

I wanted us to draft the kid because I though the combination of him and Alex Smith would create a perfect competition that would push each other and eventually provide us with that franchise quarterback we have always wanted.

If Geno is bothered by Vick to the point he regresses, he would have NEVER won the job from Alex Smith.

Messier 04-06-2014 09:42 PM

Sure, I understand dealing with pressure, but it was a kind of unnecessary pressure, wasn't it? The only reason to give Geno that pressure is if you feel it's distinctly possible he's not the guy.

I know last year, there were times Geno should have been replaced, but they had no one. They do now.

It is distinctly possible. It's say right now it's 50/50 if he is the QB of the future for the Jets. Vick is just an insurance policy if Geno tanks big time or gets injured. Everyone wants to write the book on the guy one way or another after one season. That's just silly.

The benefit of the doubt is reserved only for Chiefs players.
