Seriously? I used to see Chiefs players all over town. Maas had a bar in which players would hang out constantly. I'd run into DT in Westport (along with a booty's calls roommate), and tons of strip clubs, where I'd see Albert Lewis, Dino Hackett and lots of others at Brother's III, Legs and others all the time. I ran into Barry Word (and another player, whom I can't remember) at Brooksider's on several occasions as well.
I've told this story but from age 6-11, Paul Splittorf lived directly across the street and Freddie Patek was two doors down. I played wiffle ball with tons of Royals players.

Maybe growing up in the Ozarks limited my exposure as a child. But I live in Denver now, and I think the only sports figure I've ever seen (and recognized) in my daily wanderings was the Nuggets' GM Kiki Vandeweghe, who lived in my neighborhood. And I only recognized him because he was the tallest guy at the "party at Kiki Vandeweghe's house" and I put two and two together.
In Denver, the football practice facility is way out in the suburbs, so I don't think any players live downtown where I'm at. I presume that the other three sports all practice downtown, but I wouldn't recognize any of the MLB, NHL, or NBA players at all. Carmelo Anthony supposedly lived in the next neighborhood over when he was in Denver, but I never saw him.
