Nice strike out by Volquez.

For those watching on TV, how does he look? I know he's had at least 3-4 nice defensive plays behind him. Is he just getting lucky, or is he in command?

His change up is working.

He's pounded the strike zone pretty well and keeping the ball down.

Really has muscled up on a few of the fastballs for the strikeout. There's a weird camera angle, which makes it a little tougher than normal to get a perspective on how good the control is.

Do people understand how much pressure the Royals defense takes off of the pitching staff?

Guys like Volquez will understand they can make mistakes that Cain and Gordon (etc) will turn into outs that no one else can.

To follow up on Volquez -
I think his two seamer is REALLY moving today. He's surprised several guys with a called strike and also thrown several pitches that caught the outside corner but looked like a ball from the camera angle/seeing the ball hit the mitt.

I believe the big adjustment Ray Searage made with him last year was getting him to throw his two-seamer more.

That was a pretty pitch.

Hard to gripe about anything Royals baseball but the sac bunts are going to piss me off all year long.
