Well they do teach media ethics, but the issue is journos assume that they are ethically compelled to report what isn't actually newsworthy because it suits a narrative they think must be interjected into the world.

I've watched and listened to Boal for years. If there's one media "hack" in KC I actually like, it's Frank Boal.

And if even he thinks KMBC slipped up, you can bet they did.

WTF? Journalism today is suffering because any twat with a twitter account can be mistaken a journalist.

A large part of journalism school is about ethics as a journalist. Clearly the idiots at channel 9 missed a few things, but the power that the media wields is well known and (generally) not taken lightly by serious journalists.
