I feel bad for Soren Petro sometimes.

He wants so badly to be a Cardinals fan. He spent the first 5 minutes+ of his segment with Jason Stark slobbering over the Cardinals pitching staff and how Dave Duncan works with guys. Then he spent a few more minutes talking about the 20 inning game.

It's pretty funny to listen to. The man has an actual MLB team in his town (one that fancies itself a Cardinal 'rival') and he's talking Cardinals to the national baseball writer.

Frazod 04-20-2010 08:44 PM

You can't spell Lohse without LOSE.

Die in a fire, you useless piece of shit. 4321

DJ's left nut 04-20-2010 09:22 PM

This is the worst MFing ballgame I've seen this year, and I've seen some pretty awful ones.

I don't even care if we win, this game is just awful. Bad pitching, bad defense, little situational hitting (just a bunch of HRs). Both squads look like C league softball teams.

It's like 1997 all over again, and that shit sucked.

They should just euthanize Lohse in the dugout. That was some strange combination of Garrett Stephenson's focus and Brett Tomko's intestinal fortitude.

Fire is too good for Lohse. Death by anal fissure is about the only acceptable solution I can come up with. Is it too soon to make jokes about hitching a ride with Josh Hancock?

BigRedChief 04-20-2010 10:52 PM

What the hell has happened to Loshe? Garcia needs to be moved to the #4 slot.

And what the hell is up with Ludwick on the bases? Jeezz falling for the fake throw to 3rd? I've not seen that work in years.

I'm fine leaving the rook in the 5 spot for now even though he looks much better. After his Post All-Star numbers last year I am a little concerned that Loshe is just another turd polished by Duncan that may be falling apart. However he has a decent history of being an innings eater as his worst.

It is pretty easy to rip on him since he couldn't pitch for shit after his shoulder was ruined. At the same time his demeanor on the mound the one year he was apparently healthy was hardly inspiring.

I very much remember that game since I have a lot of family in Houston.

I really don't have much animosity towards Mulder since I was exited about the trade at the time but realized we were giving up something with Harren. That Mulder was only good for a single ****ing year and Harren is now an ace is a huge kick in the balls. Still doesn't make the trade that brutal when thinking about the everything at that time.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-21-2010 01:11 AM

Haren, Carpenter, Wainwright.

That's the way love goes....whoo oooh :(

Chief Henry 04-21-2010 07:31 AM

I was very sleepy last night and fell asleep frequently during that game. But I do remember Lohse having a 1-2 count on a batter in the middle innings and walking him, then he got an 0-2 count on the NEXT D-Back and walked him too. Then the next guy rips a 2 run double. I shut the TV off and went to bed. For Lohse to get two consecutive batters with 2 strikes and then not have the mental toughness to get at least one of them is pathetic. He needed to be a bulldog at that point and he turned into a wet noodle. I would give Lohse two more starts and if he doesn't produce, send him down and bring up our best pitcher in the minors.

His team gave him early run support with a couple of leads and he let his team down.

raybec 4 04-21-2010 07:34 AM

Hrabosky must have said it a hundred times last night but it's still true, if you score seven against Danny Haren you really expect to win. Lohse needs to get his poop in a group.

DJ's left nut 04-21-2010 05:01 PM

Okay, so maybe last night sucked.

However, at least we're not moving an $18 million starter into a setup role:

______________________________________________________

NEW YORK (AP)—Cubs manager Lou Piniella has decided to move ace right-hander Carlos Zambrano(notes) to the bullpen.

Piniella talked to Zambrano about switching to an eighth-inning role before Chicago faced the New York Mets on Wednesday night. He says Zambrano was ready to do whatever was best for the team and the change “makes all the sense in the world.”

Ted Lilly(notes) will be inserted into the rotation when he comes off the disabled list, probably this weekend.

Zambrano agreed to a $91.5 million, five-year contract extension in August 2007 that includes a 2013 option that could make the deal worth $110.75 million over six seasons. He says he doesn’t like the idea of being a reliever but wants to help the team win.

That is funny considering he threw a decent game last night. 2 ER's and 9 K's in 6 innings.

**** me, that was the angriest human being I've ever seen.

Carpenter lost his damn mind out there. If murder were legal, the D-Backs would be down one of their starting 5 right now.

At least a message was sent - the D-Backs position players are letting their pitcher know right now that they don't need him drilling another Cardinal because Jason Motte and Mitchell Boggs can come out of the 'pen with 97 mph stuff, a nasty disposition and a generally expendable nature.

Only the Cubs would move their staff ace to the pen after only 4 starts. Hell, only 1 of them was a total meltdown and that was opening day.

Gotta love it when Yadi big leagues those pitches in the dirt.

I'd like Matheny to come in every couple of weeks and just hit him with a newspaper like a spoiled puppy. Yadi should never EVER miss a ball like that. When he gives a shit, his technique is perfect and his pitch recognition is so good that he's able to recognize it immediately.

But he gets lazy out there sometimes and crap like that happens.

Pujols goes yard against Lincecum in the next game.

Generally when Pujols pulls an 0-fer but manages to scald at least a ball or two (he hit another ball hard to the OF tonight), he's just a couple of ABs away from getting his timing down and murdering some poor baseball.

If he were facing another human being on Friday, I'd be a little more confident. However, even facing the mightly Lincecum, I can see him getting ahold of one.

One of my favorite Cardinal moments ever:

Zambrano plugs a couple of Cardinals batters, tempers are starting to flare. Sosa flies out to RF and on the way back to the dugout, Carpenter stops him at the 3rd base line and tells him, in no uncertain terms, that Zambrano will get his shit together or somebody (probably Sammy) is going to get lit up.

Sosa nods his head, goes back to the dugout, and Zambrano didn't come back inside for the rest of the night.

Of everyone on the pitching staff, Penny is the guy I could see as most likely to break my arm in a drunken brawl.

Carpenter, OTOH, is the guy I could see waiting until the next night and then killing me in my sleep.

That is one seriously intense MFer.

Much of the Cardinals regular season success can be attributed to Tony's driven attitude...

...As can many of their playoff failures.

There's a line between focused and brooding that LaRussa hasn't ever found. When the playoffs role around, that intensity because almost a gripping fear and you can see his players start to grip the bats too tightly and try to throw every pitch just a little harder.

There's a reason he won his only WS in St. Louis as a massive underdog.

You have to tip you cap to Mo and TLR for putting this team togeather and for the fans to show up and pay the ticket prices to pay for it all.

To do something no other Cardinal team has ever done is an accomplishment.
Lets see if we can continue this consistency through the rest of the 162 game schedule. I don't see why we can't when we send out
Carpenter - Wainwright - Penny and Garcia looking like a 15-20 game winner too.

I like our chances if we avoid injuries.

They did enough to get it back to Busch Stadium for game 6 against Roy Oswalt. That was the game - Oswalt v. Mulder with everything on the line - that we traded Haren for.

And Mulder went out there throwing 88 mph cockshots with no movement. He gave up that jack to Jason Lane and you could see him just decide he was done pitching. From there he was just throwing slop up there and hoping the Astros would be kind enough to get themselves out.

When we needed him to come through and get us to a game 7, he spit the bit. And that's not even getting into game 2 where he yacked up our homefield advantage.

Mulder is a pussy.

Hays 04-22-2010 10:27 AM

If we could get Lohse on board with the rest of the starters the cards would be a very difficult team to hit against

The amazing thing is that some of the hitters are not doing well, if they start clicking then maybe all the runs won't come from the long ball.

That kid is nails so far but he hasn't been really touched up yet. Let's hope he beats that Cy Young stealing jackass tonight. (No real hard feelings against Lincecum)

yeah, he was great and may be I'm just a homer but I still think either Waino or Carp were more worthy of the Cy.

Waino is on track again this year, let's hope he gets some run support all year.

Well **** me running.

Ryan Howard just signed for 5 yrs/$125.

Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark when Pujols' agent comes callin'...

Marco Polo 04-26-2010 03:25 PM

Yeah I don't know why we haven't done everything in our power to sign him BEFORE Mauer and Howard got extensions. The price is going to continue to go up and up and up.

Going to the game tonight. Should be a cold one.

It was stupid to not sign him before the season started. It's only going to get more and more expensive.

  • Lohse didn't pitch so bad tonight. He recovered nicely after a couple of bad innings.
  • Glad to see Pujols get out of his slump. 6-8
  • Rasmus continues to thrive under McQuire's tutelage. He got intentionally walked to face a clutch hitter in Yadi. Thats some serious respect given to the young man.
  • Bryan Anderson with the clutch hit. Like to see him tear it up. Great trade bait.
  • Freese is playing some solid 3B after a rough start to the season.
Wild stat that impressed the hell out of me....

The Cardinals haven't been swept in a series in 9 years.

Albert is going to get paid, since teh other guys are making over a 100mill more than him

I'm gonna assume that means a season series.

Because they went on a 9 game losing streak to almost cost themselves the playoffs in 2006 and I'm equally certain they had some 4 and 5 game losing streaks in the last couple of years.

He has to get the largest contract in baseball history. He has to get paid more than A-Rod.
