Rich Gannon was productive with the Chiefs. He kicked butt in 1997.
Then Marty replaced him with Elvis Grbac and our team went to shit.

This is like our Bambino curse. We had a ****ing king in the wings who could do no wrong, and we went with the worst option imaginable. No wonder Marty never got a Lombardi.

As the 23rd overall selection in the 1979 draft, he was expected to be our next great signal caller. Joe Montana was the next quarterback taken.

Fuller started 25 games in his first 2 seasons where he threw 16 TDs to 26 INTs. He was sacked 86 times, had a QBR of 67 and lost his job to Bill Kenney.

That same year Joe Montana made the Pro Bowl and took his team to a championship.

That, my friends, is a very bad draft pick.

No, Jon Baldwin is not even on the radar in this discussion.

nice history lesson

and Baldwin's pathetic 'career' will always be tempered by the pick of Houston

Marty was old school. "An injury doesn't cost a starter his job." He ignored the fact that Gannon (and the entire team) were playing great... out of a sense of, I dunno... some misguided tradition? Honor? It sure wasn't about winning the game right in front of him.

Times have changed, and Marty was a great coach but he's a dinosaur. Alex Smith was playing his ass off last season, best QB rating in the NFL... got hurt and in came the back-up. Harbaugh went with the hot hand.

Lol, who are you defending? Grbac, Marty, or both? He went on to win 3x AFC player of the years, and an NFL MVP. He was on our roster for peanuts and was let go as a free agent. Sounds like Bambino.

I'd love to know what they saw the other night that impressed the Niners. Baldwin might have been the worst player on the field. He just looked terrible out there. Slow, couldn't catch, couldn't separate, just nothing.

Probably nothing in particular. Same as the Chiefs with Jenkins.

This trade is most likely lose/lose all around. These guys are lucky both teams are agreeing to give them a fresh start with zero expectations.

That's how we like our WR's.

Hopefully if he does catch a pass behind the LOS; he spins furiously and two or three guys swarm him. We're also fond of this sort of WR.

The only comparison I can come up with, is a baseball one.

The Royals traded a worthless pitcher for a worthless pitcher. Jonathan Sanchez for Jeremy Guthrie.

Worthless receiver for a worthless receiver? Shit, one of 'em might work out. I assume that's what they're thinking.

Sweet Daddy Hate 08-19-2013 07:52 PM

I like this trade. I was watching Baldwin in the SF game. It looked like he was running in quicksand. He has zero breakaway capability, no separation, no hands. Just height and strength. If you can't catch the football, it doesn't help much.

Fresh start for both guys. Hope its a win-win.

all of which makes no sense at all

a suspicious person could speculate that Baldwin might have been on PED's in college and now is off them.

He has to make the team. Its not just because he is going there that all of a sudden hes going to remember how to catch, to become a better route runner and give more effort.

he is going to have to work his ass off.

And the same goes for Aj Jenkins. Aj Jenkins has the talent, he just is lazy.

That happens sometimes when you play a good defense.

Other than the huge run play we gave up I thought both defenses played well in the 1st half. Were this a regular season game I'd expect it to be the same way...

Oh, the Chiefs defense played very very well other than that one over pursuit play. I think the Chiefs are going to be very good defensively.

Special teams is looking to be special.

Its all going to depend on the offense. That will dictate how special a season the Chiefs will have.

That's true. If playing for a team that legitimately could get you to a super bowl isn't enough to motivate you to reach your potential, then nothing will.

Harbaugh squeezes the potential out of all of his players.

He reminds me of Marty, only with the balls to stab the other team in the heart.

The only thing that can stop Harbaugh is if his coaching style wears out his team.

I think we can have a season very similar to the Vikings last year.

I don't see us beating some of the better teams on our schedule (Texans, Broncos, etc.) but just not turning the ball over and letting the offense run through JC will get us 6-7 wins with this schedule...

I don't know if either one will make it.

Jenkins looks to be more in line with the Avery, Wylie, and McCluster make up. Very quick. With Bowe and our TE's, that seems to be more what we need than another big receiver. Players that can get downfield quick to move the DB's back to create space for the underneath routes.

A speed receiver opposite Bowe and a speed receiver in the slot, or two speed receivers on the outside when they decided to line Bowe up in the slot should really make our offense have more options than just check downs to Charles. And it should give Charles more room to maneuver if we do check it down.

As an example. On what may have been our longest play the other night, screen pass to Davis that went for 17 yards, Avery, Wylie, and McCluster were our receivers. They all got off the line quick and ran hard down the field. Cleared out all kinds of space for the linemen and Davis to work out on the right side. And the result was our best play of the night. If not the best, it was pretty close to the best.

Isn't that like saying had Kelce, and Baldwin not dropped passes right in their hands we could have scored on our first drive?

Every game every team has plays missed because the QB misses a throw or a receiver drops a pass or a guy misses a block.

Its hard to qualify one play and dismiss others.
