We are under a high wind warning like I've never seen this time of year. I've never seen one like this even for the normal spring season.
The warning actually says to "expect wind gusts in excess of 75mph" and "widespread power outages". |

Wind in these areas (Denver and others) will blow 30 to 50 mph with gusts between 60 and 80 mph. Wind-prone places in and near the foothills may see gusts as strong as 100 mph, the NWS reports. It looks like I should bring the lawn furniture indoors. |

Yeah. Schools are getting cancelled here. For wind. Where it’s always windy. This doesn’t bode well.

This may be an inland tropical storm. Not Derecho. Have not heard that term used. Dont forget to posts reports here. |

Three years ago one of our barns jumped the tree row and landed in our back yard. Hopefully that doesn’t happen again. A 12 x 40 barn makes a hell of a crash! |
Seeing some schools closing here about noon and 1. Gusts forecasted about that time around 30, up to 60 about 7.
Stay safe people! |
We've had 100mph sustained wind before.
Flips sprinklers (not the yard kind) over like they are an empty kiddie pool. **** this shit in December. WTF?! |
I was going to see if I could hit some 450 yard drives but all the golf courses are closing due to wind.
|
Pretty windy here. Scarf weather. I love my scarf. But I lost my scarf tonight and I'm pretty upset.
|

This is low pressure, sustained winds FED by an outflow boundary. They said we could have 80-100mph winds sustained for an hour. This is actually setup WORSE than the August 2020 derecho for us. |
Most of the schools in the area are letting out at noon.
This is honestly the first time I've ever seen this type of storm setup in December. |

I hope Nebraska puts our topsoil to good use.
|
It was dark here for awhile.
There are some power outages around. I have, I think it's a cable line down in my alley. It's still windy, but I can see the sky. Hopefully that's the worst of it. |

We lost power and internet for about 15 minutes, and I was going to be bummed if it lasted longer since I have two virtual client presentations today. Fortunately, the wizards of electricity fixed it quickly.

It's getting worse again.

****ing shit wind switched directions. Out of the north now. :Lin:
|
Expected winds at 60 mph here today, with gust up to 80 mph.
I fully expect a mess tomorrow. |

Pretty intense line of thunderstorms from Grand Island NE south to Salina. I work at a greenhouse and we had everything opened so the wind would blow through and the plastic was still snapping like crazy.

Oh man, look how fast those are moving on radar.
|
Looking out the window at work and seeing trees that don't normally move in the wind blowing all over the place. This afternoon is gonna be interesting

84mph wind recorded in Garden City. Quite a few semis reported sleeping along KS highways.

It's ****ing windy as ****. |

We lost power an hour or so ago and have been through 2 tornado a severe tstorm and 2 excessive wind warnings. Craziest weather I've ever seen especially in December.
|
|
The main line just crossed the Iowa-Nebraska border moving east at a whopping 90 mph. Generated a 93mph wind gust at Lincoln and 90 in Omaha.
|
It looks like we had a mild blizzard, only it's sand drifts instead of snow.
|
Guymon Ok has been told to evacuate due to a wildfire.

There were some fires around. One a couple of miles from the house so I hooked up the disk. I got beat all to hell. I think they got it out. There was one south by a feedyard but I think they chased it into some wheat and got it out. At least one farmstead got torched up by pence. |
What are max gusts supposed to get to in Johnson County/KC?
|
We currently have sustained winds at 47mph. The thunderstorm has been followed by all the dust and smoke from western KS. Smells like a fire close by and can't see a block, it's crazy. (I may have said that earlier.)
|
I don’t know that I have ever seen the wind blow this hard for this long. Going on three straight hours now. Crazy!

Seems to be hitting West Shawnee now.

Storm line went through Topeka about 1.5 hours ago. Looked outside and everywhere was orangish in color. And for a few minutes you couldn't see more than 10ft. Lost power sometime after that, maybe an hour ago. Still very windy (ceramic tiles are blowing off our fire pit table). And it smells of wildfire. Evergy says power is supposed to be back on by 7:30. Hmmm, we shall see.

Power just came back on. We got kind of lucky all things considered - I don't think we had any storm gusts over 70. Of course, we've had 50mph sustained winds since the storm went through. Don't know about Mid-American Energy but Allianz has about 75,000 people without power.
Here's a nugget for you amateur meteorologists: There were 11 confirmed tornado reports in Iowa tonight. There had been only 5 in December since they started keeping records in the late 19th century. |
This is way too many GOT damned weather posts for a football message board
what are you people? old? |

Blew right through us here. There was 93 MPH gusts in Lincoln. By the time it got to my house outside of Omaha, it came and went in like 10 minutes. But further to the north there were some tornadoes and power outages. Done by 6pm. But right now there are crazy winds blowing, probalby 40 to 60. And it was like 72 degrees today...on December 15th...

So it took us about an hour to figure out that the smoke smell was coming all the way from ****ing Kansas.

How is everyone doing? We're still without power. About 19K in Shawnee County where I live lost power, 37K in NE KS overall.
