I really hope Buffalo signs Watkins. Adds to comp pick formula and ensures we don’t have him back for more disappointments

Please sign Watkins.

I think Veach fell flatfooted after not getting Williams. Not sure he had a backup and now a couple random guys will be brought in. Expect Watkins to be back as well.

There was one clear upgrade to a healthy Fisher available in FA. We swung hard, but he chose to stay put on a record deal. There are a couple of basically lateral moves, and they're all still out there, none have signed deals yet. Just because you haven't heard that we're pursuing someone doesn't mean Veach hasn't been talking to agents. And then there's the possibility of trading for a player that's under contract. We also don't know who Veach has been talking to, which would be because those teams probably don't want their player to know they're discussing trading him just in case it doesn't happen. You don't want to poison the well. AND then there's the upcoming draft, and who knows what Veach is planning there? Perhaps he's talking to teams about a move-up. But to say he got caught without a plan B when literally ONE legit LT is off the board is premature. *looks like Reiff may be off the market now too. If so, it's not because we couldn't afford him. Veach must not have wanted him and has another plan in mind. I doubt very seriously he's just sitting on his hands after freeing up all of that cap room. |
Curious how Veach will wiggle out of this left tackle debacle.
|
Trade for a LT if you must. Not Brown though.
|
Sooooo draft a LT at 31?
|
Russell Okung?

I think there's no reason at all to assume that was the only plan they had. |

They might wait until the draft and possible trades sort out and then go with a guy like Peters sitting out there in May who could be a temporary safety blanket for the potential R1 LT they draft, too. |

I think this is an indication that Veach wants to actually address the issue, not put an bandaid on it. He still has multiple avenues including the draft and trades to address the LT spot. I guess I look at things differently. While I would have loved to get Williams, its always a risk that you're not going to get your man in free agency. Veach didn't get his man but he has ample cap space which allows for him to trade for a vet, or better upgrade other positions. Plus teams are not done cutting good players. Look at the Bears (who are a hot mess) cutting Kyle Fuller. Now Veach can decide if he wants to upgrade over Breeland, or not. At any rate, I think it's said fe to say that we can and probably will keep Breeland at CB for at least one more year. While not a sexy move to the fan base because it doesn't bring a new name to town, it is rather significant. I also think it means this team is high on Niang, perhaps they think he can compete for the LT spot. Or heck, maybe they go back to Fisher and sign him to a new contract knowing that he's going to be coming back from injury. I think that is unlikely, but you never know. The one thing we do know is that when Fisher plays, the Chiefs win. I for one am glad that the Chiefs addressed the inside of the offensive line. This team is even more dangerous when they can control the clock and score on goal to go situations. |

But...You never know it is Houston. |
I think we are going into the season with a rookie LT, maybe he doesnt start at first. But I believe he will end up there.
|
If we aren't going to get a LT can we at least get a decent WR2 to help in the catching game or a genuine TE2 who can catch and block?
|
Quote:
we are waiting too long for backup Tightend too unless we draft one |
As it is now LT, DE, and WR are all major weaknesses. We'll obviously address each of them, the question is how well. I have no doubt that if they don't get a LT in free agency they'll trade for one or get one in the first, just hope they're ready to protect Mahomes' blindside.
My more pressing concern is WR. We haven't heard an ounce of interest with anyone at the position and available players are slowly starting to be picked up. If you're going to wait until the draft for a tackle then at least get a starting option at WR so that isn't as pressing of a need. And our defensive line as it currently stands really isn't much better than the offensive line. Our main focus in the Super Bowl was on the OL getting Mahomes killed, rightfully so, but let's not forget that after the first drive or two our DL was getting gashed against the run and couldn't touch Brady. We're all aware that DE across from Clark is a huge weakness. We've signed Taco which is a good start, but I don't think you can count on him starting. If our focus in the draft is at tackle that lessens the chances of getting a premium DE. I know we'll do something, would just really like to know what that something is. |
VEACH ****ED UP ALL HOPE IS LOST!!!!

Veach is in a good spot and the reason he’s in a good spot is because of coincidence. This is the best OL draft in history. there is a shit ton of good tackles and IOL this year. It’s really nuts. That’s probably why Veach let both tackles go.
This was from the draft forum. This is the 6th ranked OT and 7th OL overall. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here is Walker Little's Pro Day results:<br><br>OT Walker Little<br>ht: 6073<br>wt: 313<br>hand: 10 1/8<br>arm: 33 3/4<br>wingspan: 81 3/4<br>forty: 5.29/5.35 (1.82/1.83)<br>vertical: 29.5<br>Broad: 9-3 (111")<br>ss: 4.58<br>3cone: 7.43<br>bench: 24x<br><br>Here is the best/highest paid OT in the NFL's combine <a href="https://t.co/xeOoPZWq5O">pic.twitter.com/xeOoPZWq5O</a></p>— Matt Lane (@ChiefinCarolina) <a href="https://twitter.com/ChiefinCarolina/status/1372714907670560770?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 19, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> And here’s another hint. Veach signing Thuney was probably in part due to how smart he was but also how much easier he makes life for LT’s. This is pretty eye opening to see this stuff. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Two of the best things I've ever read/found about Joe Thuney were stored away in a year-old column from <a href="https://twitter.com/MattVerderame?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@MattVerderame</a> (must follow). Check this <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Chiefs?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Chiefs</a> fans (He's right on *both* tackles, btw): <a href="https://t.co/4K51RcBSc5">pic.twitter.com/4K51RcBSc5</a></p>— Matt Conner (@MattConnerAA) <a href="https://twitter.com/MattConnerAA/status/1372900210125516802?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 19, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Don’t forget that Thuney was coached by Dante Scarnecchia who is one of the best OL coaches in history. |

If Veach is able to move up for a premium LT by giving up a third this year and a third next year...that would be full blown amazing.
Both OTs on cheap deals for the next 4 years is a game changer. |
