I have a really hard time getting excited about WRs under 5'10" but I definitely get his appeal. After all, Hill is 5' 8-1/8" and he's been amazing (although that's EXTREMELY rare, you can count sub-5'10" stars on one hand). Austin is 5'7-6/8" and also weighs 15 pounds less than Hill coming out (185 vs 170). He's a near carbon copy of Isaiah McKenzie, for good or bad.

It's not that I won't champion taking Austin but I wouldn't touch him earlier than the 3rd, and it's 100% about lack of size. In the NFL, everyone is fast and physical. He's going to struggle on the outside with press, no doubt. He already struggles mightily with something Hill was extremely good at, and that's competing in traffic for the football.

The two speed-merchant guys for me are Bo Melton and Danny Gray.
Melton: 5'11-0/8" 189 with a 4.34 40, 6.98 3C, 38" Vert, 10'1" Broad.
Gray: 5'11-7/8" 186 with a 4.33 40, 34" Vert, 10'6" Broad.

I especially like Melton, who wasn't going against the Nicholls State's and Tulsa's of the world every week and he had a shit QB but still put up respectable stats.

Gray is a guy I just like his physical profile a bit more and he had some talent there with him to split up some production (Reggie Robertson is going to get drafted too).

My thoughts exactly. R2 is too rich for me, there's just not many guys that size working out and I'm not sure everything else is so exceptional about him that it compensates.

GloucesterChief 03-25-2022 02:51 PM

I think I like Wan'dale Robinson better than Austin.

chiefscafan 03-25-2022 03:12 PM

At work can someone msg boss chief?

BossChief 03-25-2022 04:05 PM

The New Orleans Saints select Smoke Monday, S, Auburn

staylor26 03-25-2022 04:13 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles select Bo Melton, WR, Rutgers

DJ's left nut 03-25-2022 06:38 PM

I’ve been sick and have barely left bed the last 24 hours so hell if I can remember who was on my board (at work - didn’t take a picture yesterday)

I think Mathew Butler was near the top of it and I don’t believe he’s been taken so we’ll go that route.

The Jets select Matthew Butler, DT - Tennessee

He’s fat. He played in the SEC. That’s the extent of my scouting report of this pick.

Kellerfox 03-26-2022 05:05 PM

SNR, get with it! I'm ready to be back in a round where my teams actually have picks!

RealSNR 03-26-2022 09:21 PM

Sorry guys. This weekend was stupid busy for me. One sec.

RealSNR 03-26-2022 09:24 PM

The Tennessee Titans select Cade Mays, G, Tennessee

kccrow 03-27-2022 07:27 PM

The New England Patriots select Luke Goedeke, OL, Central Michigan

The Pats land an athletic offensive lineman that could compete to start immediately at RG.

Rain Man 03-27-2022 08:24 PM

An organ is pulled onto the stage. A 1970s gentlemen comes out and begins playing an energetic polka. It's Milwaukee native Bob Kames!

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61iYK2XHsGL.jpg

Rain Man 03-27-2022 08:30 PM

He calls out in a merry tone,

The Green Bay Packers select Velus Jones, WR, Tennessee

"This calls for a celebration, and what celebration is complete without the song that I created and spread far and wide into the public. That's right, the Chicken Dance! Everybody join in!"

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6UV3kRV46Zs?start=47" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Rain Man 03-27-2022 08:31 PM

The crowd charges the stage and makes sure that Bob Kames never plays the Chicken Dance again.

DJ's left nut 03-28-2022 09:04 AM

So I'm pretty sure my Jets draft is actually done.

#4: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
#8: Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia
#35: Andrew Booth Jr, CB, Clemson
#38: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State
#69: Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA
111: Calvin Austin III, WR, Memphis
117: Darrian Beavers, LB, Cincinnati
146: Dohnovan West, IOL, Arizona State
163: Matthew Butler, DT, Tennessee

Probably should've gone with Travis Jones instead of Jahan Dotson at 38, but I'm just not a huge fan of Dotson so I'm letting my bias cloud my judgment a bit and ultimately the Jets needed a solid well-rounded WR prospect (then again, they could also use a disruptive interior DL). I still just don't see the ceiling there but then again, maybe ceiling isn't critical for them right now - they just need some guys that can be above average players.

That was my most questionable pick by a fair amount, IMO.

Should've maybe gone with Nick Cross at 69 instead of Woolen but the Jets signed Whitehead and Woolen just has too damn much potential to pass on the early 3rd.

Barno over Beavers would've been justifiable at 117 but I Beavers just presents such an interesting swiss army knife. Then again he may just be a special teams tweener sort.

On balance I think that's a hell of a return not just because of the amount of capital I had to work with, but because I think I extracted a really nice bit of value out of just about every one of those picks.

Not trying to be a bitch or anything, but it's easier on staylor and occasionally me if you just use the position abbreviations instead of writing out the whole word

I'm going to go like 70 selections without a pick.

I REALLY have to update a draft board just to take two goddamn 7th rounders for the Bucs?

Oof. I feel like they have interns for this sort of thing.

Im still riding a 64 pick gap. I feel the pain. It will have been almost 2 weeks between picks by the time I'm back up (estimate). Can't imagine staying engaged with a longer gap.

Rain Man 04-01-2022 12:05 AM

She shouts over the crowd, "Do you want me to make the pick or do you want me to just stand here so you can gawk at me?"

The crowd starts a change. "Gawk! Gawk! Gawk!"

Melissa stands on stage.

No, that was Samantha Steele.

Cuter but less accomplished. My memory was that she was a sideline reporter for a couple of years.

I just looked her up. She's attractive, but she's the JV team compared to peak Melissa Stark. Plus, she's from Phoenix so the Ravens wouldn't allow her to announce a pick.

kccrow 04-01-2022 09:52 PM

Just so you guys know, chiefscafan needs to make a new pick for the Lions at 177. Chig was taken 11 picks earlier at 166 by staylor.

In the meantime, Bill stares at the board in disbelief. So many guys sitting here that he thought would be gone, making it a hard decision. With Brandon Bolden gone and James White starting to pile up the years, Bill looks for another dynamic pass-catcher out of the backfield and sees what he likes.

The New England Patriots select Kyren Williams, RB, Notre Dame.
