I think Mizzou's defense over the course of the season has been much worse than Tennessee's offense has. Tennessee's defense and Mizzou's offense are comparable in terms of performance over the course of the year (both are at least top 10 if not higher depending on what #s you look at). I think Gates has done a great job year 1 trying to overcome the shortcomings of the situation he's inherited and if he's doing this already, as well as being a notoriously good recruiter at FSU, Mizzou will be in great shape next year and in the future. Gates has been squeezing every possible drop he can out of this roster. Tennessee's roster is better constructed than Mizzou's(that's what happens when you have a competent coach who has been in place for 8 years vs a good coach in year 1 taking over a shit show). And, **** Tennessee. I despise their fanbase. |

What a gutsy win. Typical for Mizzou.

Feels so good to proudly wear my Mizzou gear out and about again. What a win!

What a great freaking win!! So so so impressed with the job Dennis Gates has done. Getting a wide open shot out of seemingly every timeout is just great coaching. What an exciting team, and they've got tons of heart.
A victory tomorrow will be a tough accomplishment, but they've got a puncher's chance. You never know what could happen. |
24-8, 4th seed in SEC Tourney, 6 top 25 wins, Florida is the only bad loss, 11-7 in conference play, SEC tourney semi finals
Rankings at time of loss: #6 KU #13 Arkansas #4 Alabama #25 Texas AM x2 19-9 Auburn 18-10 Mississippi State 14-14 Florida - bad loss We have some pretty damn good wins (rankings at time of win) Illinois - 16th Kentucky - 17th Arkansas - 25th Iowa State - 12th Tennessee - 5th Tennessee - 17th So 1 bad loss and it was to a current .500 team. We should be a 5 at worse. |

HCDG with the contract extension too.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Missouri announced Friday night that the University and head men’s basketball coach Dennis Gates have agreed to a contract extension. Gates’ contract was extended through the 2028-29 season, and his salary will increase to $400,000 in the 2023-24 season. The pay raise includes annual increases of $100,000 for each season through the life of the agreement. I mean surely he's not making only $400k a year right? NVM, he will be making $4 mil a year next year with annual $100k raise. $4 mil a year would have put him tied for 10 in men's bball coaching salary. He was only making $2.5 mil this year. Good on Mizzou for giving him a raise/extension when they didn't have to. Keep this dude happy. |

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Board of Curators voted unanimously Thursday to approve a contract extension through the 2028-29 season for Whitten Family Men's Basketball Head Coach Dennis Gates. "When he came here, Dennis Gates talked about building a championship culture, and he is doing just that," said Michael Williams, chair of the Board of Curators. "He is an individual with high standards and a clear vision for our student athletes. It has been an exceptional season, and the Board is very excited to witness our program build on this success." Gates, whose original contract ran through the 2027-28 season, will see his annual salary increase to $4 million in 2023-24, with $100,000 increases each season through the life of the amended agreement. All other terms of his original contract remain the same. |

It pushes his salary from $2.5 million to $4 million next season, the school announced Friday, not long after the Tigers beat Tennessee 79-71 in the SEC tournament quarterfinals. On Thursday, the UM System Board of Curators unanimously approved the addendum to Gates's contract that extends his initial deal through the 2028-29 season. Under the new contract, his guaranteed salary also increases $100,000 each year. Just in case other schools try luring him away from Columbia, the new contract increases his buyout to $25.5 million should he leave for another job in 2023-24. MU would owe him the same amount if he's fired within the next year without cause. The buyout decreases each year based on how much money is left on his contract. |

I didn't realize how trash of a team Arky is. Arky Fan was talking a METRIC TON of **** just a bit ago about their coach, "NBA" players, players stolen FROM Mizzou, etc. WTF happened?

$25.5M BUYOUT! Wow. Kudos to the AD and rest of the Admin for moving fast. He deserved it.

Kudos to Missouri. I don't know how you are doing it. When you played Kansas I thought that was the worst team we played all year. I still think your coach is smoke and mirrors though since he is a terrible defensive coach. Gimmicks only get you so far but I could see Missouri being like Iowa and Fran McCaffrey level coaching. Just enough to be relevant, which Im sure is a win for Mizzou fan

When do you think the last time the #188th best defense in the country has made a Final Four. In fact, I doubt it's ever happened. I cant even find a team that has made the Final Four with a defense over 100. And you guys have an old ass team. It's a reasonable excuse if you have a young squad but you have like 6th year Covid seniors. Fran McCaffrey is the comp for Gates. Thats the ceiling. Good coaches could get 5 NAIA players and make their teams Top 100 defenses. They do it year after year after year. It matters. |
"Mizzou had a good day. I really need to go shit all over their coach."

Some of the shit I see the opponents making is just ridiculous. This teams defensive isn't near as bad as KimPop would have you believe. You just have to watch them play. The one thing that would help them tremendously is if they just got a bit better at rebound. They are currently 349/352 in rebound margin. Mizzou gets 30.5 rebounds per game and there opponents avg 37.3 rebounds per game. They have gotten better towards the end of the season outside of a 3 game stretch where we played A&M, Auburn, Tennessee. Missouri rebounds/Opponent rebounds Tennessee 28/33 Ole Miss 26/29 LSU 29/33 Georgia 28/28 Miss St. 38/41 Texas A&M 23/41 this was bad bad bad Auburn 26/48 even worse than above Tennessee 24/37 South Carolina 28/28 Miss St 35/36 LSU 32/38 Iowa State 25/38 still beat that ass Ole Miss 27/36 Alabama 45/53 no Kobe Brown Arkansas 23/42 Florida 33/34 |
I can't wait to see the Gheyhawks get bounced by a mid major in the tournament.....again. Maybe I will go in the KU thread and troll those douchebags after that. Gheyhawk fans are the worst. Coming into the MU thread to troll after a win??? **** off prick!

If random Bengals fan comes around and says "can't wait to beat the Chiefs in the AFCCG again next year!" ....we all laugh at him, because even if that does happen, it's 100% don't care, won SB. Yet, this trash talk is far weaker given it's theorizing on a 3rd party team and there's just no logic in trash talking a fan base who experienced a NC last season. Just like you know how the Chiefs losing in the divisional round next year wouldn't matter at all, KU could lose in the first weekend this year and it doesn't matter at all. Yet.. you're still under the delusion of getting under people's skin, when we'll just laugh at you, just as we did with random Bengals fan. You do you though. |

Glad to see them committing to Gates.
Re: the defensive problems, they are undersized and below average athletically, and the defense suffers for it. It kills their rebounding. And also leaves them without much rim defense. His teams at Cleveland State weren’t glaringly weak on defense. They need to get bigger, quicker, and longer across the board but especially inside. Had Jamorrion Sharp NOT backed out that would have been present this year. Reinforcements are on the way next year. |

yeah, tons of missed shots
some bad looks taken too |
Mizzou really needs this game for their resume. Compared to similar teams that they have beat - they don't have that signature win like the other teams do.

can't miss ****ing layups

Finally!

Ice-****ing-cold shooting.

we missed like 15 3's so far

6 of 22 (23 now) shooting. Yuck.

Just make sure you don’t let Brandon Miller drive and pass it off for easy shots from his teammates.

Great, we probably lost Kobe to a concussion.

This tournament is reffed unlike any regular season game. They basically let everything go, rough, slaps, shoves, crazy.

Doesn't look like we'll pull this out the way we're shooting.

Shaw injured or just not getting any time today? Could use his length.

Is Brandon Miller playing today? Haven’t heard the announcers mention his name.
