According to sources, this film needs to hit $800 million to break even.

They've spent 400+ million on advertising? That's insane if true.

I think I read somewhere last night while I was being insomniac that a 300+ million international opening is projected this weekend. Unless I hallucinated that.

I'm curious if suicide squad will do better

Wow. I hope the standalone Batman gets higher ratings and the future justice league movies. I'm hoping this atleast springboards those movies to do better

Everything I've read indicates near universal belief that Suicide Squad will be a huge hit. But who knows. It's supposed to be more like Guardians or Deadpool than Snyder.

Suicide squad might be a better movie, I don't know if you can call it a guaranteed hit though.

I'd be more excited about SS if anyone other than Will Smith was cast as Deadshot.

Leto as Joker makes up for Smith.....at least in my eyes.

I don't think the number is quite $400 million in marketing.

But keep in mind, the exhibitors receive a larger chunk of the box office receipts and receive a higher percentage the longer it runs in theaters.

I'll be surprised if, based on the reviews, the movie is a "winner" for WB.

It helps, as he's awesome.

But I'm at the point were if I didn't see Will Smith in another movie for 30 years, it would be too soon.

So now it comes down to how many suckers will go to a bad movie.

About what I expected...

So pretty much everything Snyder touches? He is a slightly better story teller than Michael Bay, and uses massive CGI effects just as heavily. He is a hack and each of his films is a bore covered in glossy CGI.

Chiefspants 03-23-2016 03:09 PM

Oh god.

Spoiler!

I think this is one of those movies where the people who were already going to see it aren't going to have their minds changed by reviews, and neither were the people who weren't. And actually I think reviews in general are going that direction. Social media seems to matter more these days. We'll see what the buzz is like this weekend. And, really, what else is anybody going to watch between now and May 6 (Civil War)? At least with regards to the people who are fans of spectacle.

I'm still going Friday or Saturday. I'll let you know what I think...
