Despite it's criticisms, Watchmen is one of my favorite superhero movies ever. The fact that it married itself to the comic is one of it's greatest criticisms, but the more I see Snyder's work the more I think that's the reason the story is as coherent as it is.
When Snyder deviates he tends to ham fist the plot, stuff in soapy quotes on what it means to be a "hero" and go off the deep end in terms of the action. I was stoked for Man of Steel after seeing Watchmen, and it was a gut punch to walk out of that theater. |
Yeah I too enjoyed Watchmen. I think people rip on it because of Snyder... and he does get carried away with slow-mo, and action... but I thought it was a decent movie. Maybe it was because he stuck to the comic, but it worked.

Wow. It's actually dropping on RT. Did not expect that. Currently at 33% with 129 reviews. Guessing the critics really don't like Snyder. I see a lot of people saying he's the new Michael Bay, but I never really paid much attention. I liked Watchmen and 300.

Loved Watchmen, and was a huge fan of the graphic novel as well.
Sucker Punch otoh made zero sense, but damned if it wasn't a stunning looking movie. |

Can't wait to see this. I know it probably won't be that good but I'm excited nonetheless.

God I hope that isn't true. |
Is it weird I feel almost obligated to go see it. I mean, it's not going to be Batman and Robin, or Spiderman 3 bad... ?

Since then Snyder has gone completely off the rails. Disappointed this film may end up being a turd, but I think it comes from the fact that -- like so many other franchises like Terminator and Aliens vs Predator and Transformers -- it pisses me off when a brand like this gets screwed up. Seriously, how do you screw up Batman and Superman teaming up? I guess by making them fight each other... |
