Jayson Stark of ESPN reports that the Royals have talked to the Reds about Todd Frazier.

Kansas City is committed to Mike Moustakas at third base, so Stark presumes that Frazier would be used in left field if a trade can be worked out between these two teams. Frazier, 29, smashed 35 home runs in 157 games this past season for the Reds and is due just $7.5 million in 2016 with another year of arbitration coming in 2017. It'll take a big haul to pluck him away from Cincinnati, but the Reds do seem fully prepared to move him this winter.

I'm sure as Dayton Moore mentioned, this fits into the idea that most clubs want an unreasonable amount of compensation back right now. He's a patient guy.

**** you Marlins...

@jcrasnick: #Marlins have aimed high in their Marcell Ozuna trade talks -- i.e., Yordano Ventura, Taijuan Walker, Danny Salazar. Serious asks.

Sure-Oz 12-10-2015 01:07 PM

Starks column mentions they asked about Jay Bruce...it would take Raul Mondesi and Almonte to get Frazier. Not gonna happen.

He does. Which is why he took less to sign with the Cubs. The Giants and Nats offered more $$$.

Anyway, So I hear that Sal is a big Molina fan. Has tried to emulate him. You guys got his backup from us. You think it was to give Sal some first hand info on how Yadi does his day to day business? Plans and calls games?

Thread troll

Do not feed.

But valiant try

Clearly our GG, AS, WS MVP needs tips. Too bad, the only one who could possibly have any for him plays in San Francisco.

I mention with respect to framing, which he sacrifices some to make sure he keeps everything in front of him. Reasonable tradeoff, IMO, given the makeup of our staff .

I don't believe that. If the money is there, what leads you to presume he's essentially biding his time before escaping KC.

I know $$$ and years rule supreme, but playing in KC is no longer suffering through 100 losses to pick up a paycheck, and the young guys have a bond coming up through the organization together.

Not sure it's that simple, and it's definitely a huge risk to wait... but I'm not sure you can sign every single guy to a huge deal. Problem with having such a deep team. Moose and Hos are on the right side of 30 too. If you give those guys plus Cain and Gordon money that could be nearly four $100M contracts. You're talking 60-80 million in payroll to 4 guys. And no one on the internet has even mentioned Wade yet. If he pitches half as good as the last two years he's about to get the greatest reliever contract of all time.

Although personally, I think it just comes down to Gordon's age, but they won't say that.

Of course it's age, if they could have done 4 years a season ago at a restructured extension, Gordo would have been manageable in salary and years in retrospect.

It is what it is now, I'm not going to start being that guy - the ungrateful fan who armchair GMs every decision as if operating in a bubble with zero other circumstances to weigh and consider.

They can ask. Just like they can wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one gets filled faster.

Quick thoughts:
Marcell Ozuna is going to be a Marlin again next year if that's the asking price and they don't bend on it.

Re: Todd Frazier... It would be hard to give up Mondesi for KC because his floor seems to be Escobar-esque, and the system doesn't have much behind him.

Trading him now would put KC under the gun on Escobar come 2017, where it might have to sign him even if he's fading because there's no one else to go to.

KChiefs1 12-10-2015 02:53 PM

Cubs & Cards bidding for Heyward. I bet the loser goes hard after Gordon.

Great points. I really don't see them parting with Mondesi under any circumstances, simply because it allows vital flexibility or controlled money at a position Moore views as critical - namely your defenders right up the middle.
