Yes, I watched/heard the video multiple times. And I'm still not exactly sure what it is I'm hearing or what it's supposed to prove. Completely inconclusive in every way.

Who are the eyewitnesses BTW? Are they as or more credible as this guy with the history of yelling derogatory things at college athletes?

Silock 02-09-2014 11:45 PM

As opposed to the more credible . . . assumption?

As far as I can tell, it's still just Smart's word against this guy's right now. Same situation as we were last night. Neither are exactly the most credible of sources for different reasons. If you've got something more substantial than that, something that proves it either way, I'd love to see it. But that video you're referring to certainly doesn't constitute it.

You can clearly hear "You piece of crap" in the video, and that's right when Smart turns around and walks up to him.

I don't know how much more substantial you want.

Sorry, but I can't clearly hear anything here. Especially the word "crap." For me, I think I hear "piece of..." but then the audio immediately trails off (although even that may be because I was trying to hear it and expected to hear it). It's extremely inconclusive.

You honestly think this constitutes substantial evidence of anything at all?

Silock 02-09-2014 11:59 PM

I hear it all clearly. Crap is certainly at a lower volume, but still clearly discernible.

Yes, I do think it's substantial evidence, especially since there is no indication either on video or from any eyewitnesses around him (cameramen, spectators, or anyone else) that a racial slur was used. You really think EVERYONE is just lying to protect this guy?

I don't. I'm even straining to hear it and there's nothing there. The audio even seems to trail off immediately after a quick yell of something. Seems to me you're hearing what you want to.

What indication were you looking for? An acknowledgement? Some kind of admonishment? I've heard racial slurs yelled before at games and nobody around those idiots ever did or said anything about it (and that goes for me too, I suppose I'm a coward). Why would that be any kind of a surprise?

For somebody to be lying about anything, somebody would have had to come out to make a statement either way. That hasn't happened.

Or maybe you're not hearing what you don't want to. Or maybe your hearing isn't as good. Or your speakers. But it's there.

Were you ever involved in something like this with national attention? Were the people around you ever interviewed regarding whether or not they heard something?

Yes, it has.

http://www.texastech.com/genrel/020914aab.html

"Texas Tech interviewed Mr. Orr along with numerous fans, photographers and arena personnel that were seated in the area surrounding him. Mr. Orr vehemently denied the accusation that he used a racial slur and no one in the vicinity of Mr. Orr heard such a slur.

Mr. Orr has admitted to directing an inappropriate phrase toward Marcus Smart. Texas Tech has been able to verify that statement independently through video provided by Texas Tech Sports Broadcasting. At no point on the film can a racial slur be heard."

FWIW, I can also clearly hear "You piece of cra-woooop." The last part of crap is muffled but the "You piece of" is clear as day.

I'll admit my laptop's speaker sound does suck, but I do have headphones. There's absolutely nothing there. This isn't the smoking gun you're looking for.

No, but the point was that most people don't like getting involved in situations where they see unacceptable behaviour and will do anything to avoid conflict. I believe psychologists call it the bystander effect.

No, that hasn't happened. Nobody has come out publicly and made any such statement either way. The article you've cited doesn't give specifics of any kind in that regard and also comes from a source with a vested interest in not having the world know that some of their fans use racial slurs (as several other college players have come out in the last day to say). It's just about as credible as the inconclusive video they put out there that proves absolutely nothing about anything. The way it also seems to take the guy's side is also particularly embarrassing to me (such are the benefits of being a booster).
