The media, thus the polls and most fans, lag behind reality a bit... or even years.

B1G was insanely overrated for several years and teams routinely got propped up based on preseason polls and the logic of "oh, you beat preseason #2? You must be amazing, too! Top 10!" (and this will always happen to some extent anyway; see: Indiana)

B1G has caught up some while the SEC just isn't the powerhouse it used to be, but the narratives stick around.

If you cabt see that the best 2 teams made it to the Championship game, then you probably just don't want to see it. OS and ND are now playing their best football. Each were challenged in the playoffs, and prevailed. Notre Dame beat the SEC Champions and a very good Penn.St. team. Ohio State beat the top team in the country and Texas. Both teams deserve to be where they are. No system will ever be perfect, but in my opinion the way it worked out this year, the best two teams are meeting for the National Championship.

NiL has changed alot of things and for the better IMO. Wonder how much of it was the SEC bagman or was it just the region where all the talent was that made the conference what it was? Now northern schools are able to overcome that since they can pay the southern kids.
