And don't say respect/goodwill/fans like him/2015 HR...those are the reasons he would be getting ANY contract at all. |

8 million a year doesnt buy shit these dsys. Billy ****ing Hamilton got a 1 year 5-6 million dollar deal. |
And Keller walks the leadoff batter.
A trip to Omaha needs to be in the cards.... |

How many 36 year olds with 3 shitty seasons of their last 4 get $16M over two years? 8M/yr is about what Moustakas got and he's 6 years younger. |

He also wasn’t coming off a 6+ win season, which is what Gordon is on pace for. And he got $13 million guaranteed on a one-year deal IIRC ($10 million base with $3 million buyout). I have given up on trying to predict the free agent market, not that it really applies to Gordon. He won’t be testing it. But Nick Markakis, at 35, got a $6 million guarantee coming off a season much less valuable than Gordon’s current pace. |
The Wilmington Blue Rocks currently have the worst offense that the Carolina League has seen since 2016, and probably much longer than that. Team OPS of .601 and averaging just 3.45 runs per game.
Yet they have the second best record in the league. That pitching staff. https://twitter.com/RoyalsFarm/statu...639698945?s=19 |

Markakis has been solid offensively for years, including last year when he had a .800+ OPS and won a Gold Glove. He's getting $6 - 10M total for this year and next. That's about what Alex should get, but like you said, hard to predict these things now. Looks like Moose is making $7M this year, 11M mutual option next yr, w/ $3M buyout. |
Will Ned keep playing Owings when his batting average is below .100? I say yes.
|
Why does Ned have this never ending need to make sure he gets the worst players in the majors at-bats?

The Royals now have the second worst record in the league.

I’m not saying pay him like a 6-win guy. Markakis is probably the best comparison due to age and being on the market last offseason. Markakis totaled 4 wins in the 3 seasons before his walk year, when he put up 2.6. He cashed that in for a $6 million guarantee that maxes out at $5 million/year over two years. Gordon totaled 3.4 wins in the 3 seasons before this one, with his end season TBD. A lot will depend on how his offense holds up over the rest of the season. I used Markakis as a base for my guess at what a Gordon extension might look like and tried to account for his history with the team and the $4 million guarantee. |
Congrats, guys! 4 runs in three games. Exciting stuff!
