Actually, the dreadful mess he made of coverage of Drum Corps International leaps to mind.

Remember him referring to 'Star of Indiana' at the 93 finals at Arrowhead as 'The Kansas City Star.' ROFL ROFL

Along with Jim McCay, Gowdy is the "voice of televised sports" in Bob Dole's memories of childhood.

Say what you will, but Curt Gowdy is listed as a great sportscaster in my little book of great sportscasters. I seem to remember him calling some old AFL games, if I'm not mistaken.

If there is a heaven, I have no doubt that he is calling a volleyball match between the angelic hosts as we speak.

You're not mistaken. I have a funky old tape of the '62 AFL title game, and Gowdy's the play by play man.

Thanks for verifying, Mr. chefsos. I think he called quite a few of them in the early days.

Wow, you've stumped me now. I haven't watched it in a couple of years and my VCR has passed on. This reminds me, I gotta get that transferred to a CD.

He did a lot of early Chief games. I also used to watch him on the American Sportsman. RIP.

He was also a member of the NBC broadcast team for the first Super Bowl.
