ESPN's Football Dream Team

Okay, ESPN is officially stupid. I looked at John Clayton's dream team where he lists the best possible players at their respective positions and the best possible backups. It really was a thing of stupidity. For instance...

While Chad Johnson was listed as a starting WR, his backup was (drum roll)....Dante Hall??? Santana Moss and Steve Smith were the other two starters (which is fine I suppose), but because they didn't pick the backups from a list of actual backups, I find it odd that there was no Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, or Larry Fitzgerald. I mean, if you're going to pick a WR from the Chiefs, why not go with Kennison?

Also, in the TE spot, missing was Crumpler, Gonzalez, and/or Witten. Basically, for some reason, Clayton had just about every San Diego Charger on his team. Also, not one Chief on the Offensive Line.

Here's the list; you can decide for yourself...

QB: Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub, Andrew Walter
RB: LaDanian Tomlinson, Marion Barber, Lendale White, Darren Sproles
WR1: Chad Johnson, Dante Hall
WR2: Steve Smith, Dave Tyree
WR3: Santana Moss, Roscoe Parrish
TE: Antonio Gates, Chris Cooley, Leonard Pope
LT: Walter Jones, Michael Roos, Marcus McNeil
LG: Eric Steinbach, Richie Incognito
C: Jeff Saturday, Chris Spencer
RG: Chris Snee, Richie Incognito
RT: Jammal Brown, Michael Roos, Marcus McNeil

I don't have time to list the defensive starters. But Jarred Allen was a 3rd stringer.

Looks like the backups are actual backups.

About the O-Line, I don't think there's a LG in the league I'd rather have than Brian Waters. Otherwise, I can't argue much with any of the other starter picks.

I'd change a few backups, though.

Some of them are. Jarred Allen and Chris Cooley aren't. But they're listed as backups in this format.

I don't think Marion Barber is either.

ah..I was only looking at the offensive list.

Marion Barber is a backup to Julius Jones.

Marion Barber
that's pretty funny, what dream is this again?

DaKCMan AP 07-17-2006 09:35 AM

I also think Christian Fauria is the skins starting TE, FWIW.

For some reason Cooley isn't listed on their depth chart.

If he had been consitent w/ backups as backups, it's not horrible. It certainly seems to me he included Dante as a backup WR to use him as his KR, considering his other choices in Tyree and Parrish.

I can see not including Roaf/Shields, as the age thing is significant. But I absolutely would have either Waters or Hutch at LG, never even considering anyone else.

I got made too untill I saw the point of the "dream team" is to keep the whole team under the salary cap.

meStevo 07-17-2006 10:03 AM

Ya, its a dream team he can put together under todays salary cap, with his ideal players at each position with that as his limitation so thats you don't have TO/LJ/Our entire OL/etc.

Yeah, Hall is on there was the returner and Tyree as the special teams ace. It makes cap sense to utilize them in backup WR roles too.

That would also explain why they didn't put Holmes at the backup RB position cause, come on.

I mean, since it doesn't really matter if he is or isn't coming back, being just a piece of internet paper.

I see. I guess that makes more sense. San Diego must be grossly underpaying many of their starters on offense. I suppose I could argue with some of his choices, but overall I suppose it makes sense.

BTW, does Jarred Allen really only make $500,000??

He's not listed? I wonder if it's because he plays many positions like our secret weapon, Kris Wilson. ROFL

Cooley was awesome down the stretch in Fantasy Football last year.... 'hmm, i think ill start him at... FB, the spot that averages me a whole 4-5 points!' *whistles*
