Murder Suspect Arrested After North Tulsa Standoff

A north Tulsa standoff ended with an arrest Saturday night. Nineteen-year-old Rico Starks surrendered to police shortly after 11 p.m. The standoff lasted about two hours at an apartment complex at the 2200 block of North Hartford. Starks is suspected of killing 18-year-old Mark Jordan. He's wanted for shooting with intent to kill and second-degree murder. He has been booked into Tulsa County Jail.

Officers also had to deal with the crowd that gathered outside the complex. A shot was fired at officers from the crowd, and police cars were attacked. Reinforcements were called in to get the mob under control.

Well, I would suffice to say, that

1. It was a poor neighborhood.
2. Predominately black neighborhood.
3. The crowd was inciting racism.
4. The crowd was trying to provoke some sort of police injustice.
5. The crowd was trying to provoke some sort of police brutality.
6. The crowd is saying this is nothing but wrongful profiling.
7. And lastly, a murderer in our neighborhood? No? Really? Dat's nuthin' compared to the gangs we have.

That is a predominantly black neighborhood. The pizza places won't deliver there after dark. I was working near there the other day when two detectives pulled up and asked if I'd been in the apartment. I said yes and they showed me a pic of a black dude and asked if he was in there. I think this is the same dude they were after the other day.

It's not right but its life. That stuff happens ALL the time in the housing projects here in LA.

Yes, I was installing a dish when the 5-0 showed up. It was his girlfriends apartment and he had been seen there. They said he was wanted for murder so I'm pretty sure it is the same guy.

Dang, Mr. Skip Towne. That's a little scary. Small world, I suppose. But, you seem to have very interesting life experiences.

In this day and age, you can't even install a dish without encountering a damned murderer.

I had an even scarier one a couple of months ago. Wall to wall gangbangers. I had just arrived when the big momma got in her car and went to church. That left me alone with the gangster son. He was very uncooperative and walked away when I told him I needed to put him on the phone with Directv. I said OK, then I'm going to leave it incomplete and you can explain why when she gets back. He got right on the phone. Those guys aren't afraid of guns, knives or prison but they ARE afraid of their mommas. It is a matriarchal society.

Probably safer than climbing on some dang roof with that Tulsa wind blowing. Bet that dish catches the wind pretty well, too.

I suppose the reason for that is that father figures are so rare in their culture. I was thinking that, if there were a way to bottle all that gangster energy, we would have no problem winning the war on terror and Osama would have had a pop in his ass cap a long time ago.

Do you ever worry when going on these calls, Mr. Skip Towne? I mean, have you ever turned a job down because of the neighborhood?
