funny aside

how much do you want to spend? I was given a piece of wood with casters bolted on when I asked for one. They told me they would actually spend money on one if I used this one for a while and showed that it would not just collect dust in the corner of the garage. I went around on this thing for about a week and they finally gave in. Spent $50 on a board.

One month later it was collecting dust in the corner of the garage.

basic stuff. Go to a local skate shop and they can usually help (please support a local shop instead of corporations and online shit). He won't need a pro deck nor top of the line trucks. A good basic set of Red's bearings should work for the wheels.

The key is to get him something that he will be able to learn tricks on or he will quit and waste the money you spent on it (but not go all out either in case he really doesn't like it). If you get the bargain basement Walmart shit, then he won't be able to really skate without tearing it to shit.

Here's a link for a range of what should work for him

do NOT buy it at walmart

that's all I know for sure
kids busted them inside a week

like nobody knew that

also, since he's 8, pay attention to the length and width of the deck. A mini should be perfect for him.

Are you in the KC area?

I would look around on Craigslist and pick up a good board for a cheap price. You can drop hundreds of dollars on a good board.

I don't do it anymore. I actually like a Ripstick a little better, but I know that will make the real skate crowd turn their nose at me.

I am spending my free time working out and trying to learn to ride my unicycle..... but, go to a skate shop, figure out what you like.... then start looking for it on craigslist.

Any deck is good for an 8 year old as long as it isn't one from Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. You can either go to a skate shop or go online to get a deck, wheels, trucks, etc. A lot of skate shops make their own boards and will sell them cheaper than the name brand decks. I have bought many decks from the website that KC Native posted and I highly recommend it. CCS also has their own brand of equipment.

Smart move. Skaters are 99.8% more likely to smoke, drink and do drugs. Buy him a set of Golf clubs instead. He'll thank you for it later in life.

Exactly!

Look what it did for Tiger Woods. Dude has bitches stashed EVERYWHERE just waiting to give it up.

I hope you have good health insurance, Trav.

Not sure, but I'm doubting this one gets used again. Might be able to get it at a good price.

There is a company called termite you can go to termite.com or google it or whatever. They make boards for "gromits" kids. They are designed just for the kids size. They also have pads small enough for the little ones. My sons first board was a termite. Super cool company and very good product. I also highly recomend taony hawks series of videos on trick tips. They start with the basics all the way up to the toughest tricks out there. I've skated all my life, well until my body completly broke down any ways. Skating is an awesome thing for kids to get into. Support your kid and get him the right equipment it makes a world of differance. Good luck.
