Another Police Officer Killed in the Line of Duty
This happened in my community today:
Los Angeles County Sheriff Sergeant Steve Owen, a 29 year veteran of the LASD, was killed in the line of duty today in Lancaster. The suspect, a parolee, is in custody. This is such a sad day here in the Antelope Valley. Pray for our cops. Sergeant Owen is in the back row of this picture, 2nd from left. http://theavtimes.com/wp-content/upl...-LASD-2014.jpg |
RIP. It's a shame, but I'm glad they got the SOB who did it. I'm sorry for your communities loss.

As a side note, that picture above was when Owen received a medal of valor, the department's highest honor.
His wife is an arson investigator, also with Los Angeles County Sheriff. I can't verify this, but it's being widely circulated here that he was 2 days shy of his retirement. Small consolation that his wife mother, and kids were apparently able to get to the hospital to be with him before he died. |
My heart goes out to the family and friends and his fellow cops.
My brother was a cop for like 10 years. I think he was a good cop treated people fairly and even so gave the Mayors kid a ticket and or a ride in the back of the pd car for drunk driving back to the station. Well that didn't set well for the Mayor and do to rural county politics he just isn't a cop anymore. The fear was always you never knew how a routine traffic stop could go someone could just shoot you and drive off and that be that. That's what cops have to deal with every day. I think they are brave people to put on the badge. |
RIP

How would you like a job where everyday someone might kill you. Brave people.
That being said, what's Tommy Lasorda doing in the picture? |
Is that Kareem Abdul Jabbar in the back right corner? Obviously only one not standing on the benches.

Ok, non-troll; of course RIP, brother. We'll take it from here. It hurts to keep hearing these stories, but happy to see the initial responses are supportive in nature. |
RIP.
Tough to swallow. |

Quote:
Sgt. Owen went to the back of the apartment to check and was shot there. His partner rushed to the gunfire and found him...the gunman then ran the other way to the cruiser and took off in it...he rammed another patrol car coming in and injured another deputy (who is fine), and then he ran into a nearby home and took two hostages, one of whom managed to text information of where they were...anyways, he eventually got caught hopping a wall trying to escape and did get shot at some point. Unfortunately he survived. |
