Fine Dining in KC

Wife and I are headed up to KC in a couple of weeks.

Her only request is that we hit Arthur Bryants once while we're there. However, we dont get out often together without the kid, so I'd like to take her to an upscale restaurant while we're there.

I don't trust yelp anymore aside from pictures, so I figured I'd get you guys thoughts on the better places in town?

Which places aren't worth the hype? What are the hidden gems?

How fine is fine dining?

Nicer than chain restaurants, I'd recommend:

Graham and Dunn or Capital Grill on the Plaza

Garozzo's Italian in old Italy, north of River Market

The Reiger Hotel in Crossroads has an eclectic menu of fine fare and you can have the best craft cocktails in the city in the basement speakeasy at Manifesto (look up online for the number to text for a reservation to Manifesto)

I hear there's a new place the Antler Room near Crown Center but haven't been there.

There's a fancy looking steak house in Union Station but I haven't been there.

Mihael Smith and Blue Stem are two James Beard award-winning restaurants. I hear Novel is a nice, unique and intimate place.

The Webster House was pretty good the last time we ate there. Another long time favorite is the Bristol for seafood. We also like Garozzo's, especially the one in Little Italy.

You guys talking about the downtown Garozzos?

Isn't Jack Stack considered fine dining in Kansas City?

It doesn't have to be super nice. Just somewhere where we won't seem out of olace with her in a dress and me in slacks and a button up.

801 Chophouse

Le Freu Frog

Final Cut at Hollywood Steakhouse

Tatsus French Restaurant (a little dated but real good food)

Em Chamas Brazilian

Raw

Antons Taproom

Actually, there are alot of good restaurants in KC. It's been on the uptick in recent weeks I believe.

The place at Union Station is Pierpont's and I think they are owned by the Hereford House people. It's about the same as the Hereford House as far as food quality, but it's pretty elegant inside. Yes, the Garozzo's in Little Italy is close to downtown. They have other locations, but the one in Little Italy is the best, imo. It's just kind of a pain to get there and park.

Wife and I ate at Perkins on our first date AND on our way to the hotel after the wedding! ROFL

OK, so to class that up a little, our first date was actually Phantom of the Opera at The Kansas City Music Hall, and Perkins was the only thing open on the way home. And neither of us got to eat more than a half piece of cake at our reception and were starving, so we thought it was a nice bow on our courtship.

Tim, where are you staying? That would help narrow the list. There really are a lot of great restaurants around town right now.
