Some Chiefs playoff scenarios

Some interesting things to consider going into this weekend:
  • #3 and #4 are locked in [Edited]
  • #5 seed is still at large. If KC loses and Miami wins, Miami takes the #5 seed
  • If KC ends up a #6 seed, then an Oakland win over Denver guarantees we see the Raiders in round 2 (following a win)

Should be a fun weekend. I really love that with the 3 key AFC playoff matchups, there's a ton of different scenarios for how the playoff bracket will shake out. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

If we are 6 then we would go to ne unless you think ne loses so that oak is #1 seed.

The only way we get to #6 is if KC loses and Miami wins. If Miami wins plus Oakland wins, then Oakland gets the #1 seed.

In a strange way that may not be so bad. Maybe not would just have to beat ne before oakland.

This is incorrect.

If the NE Patriots lose and the Raiders win, the Raiders will be the #1 seed. If the Patriots win, they're the #1 seed.

The only other seeding that's up for grabs is #2 and #5.

If the Chiefs win and the Raiders win, the Chiefs are #5.

If the Chiefs win and the Raiders lose, the Chiefs are #2 and the Raiders #5.

Well, lets hope the Chiefs take care of business this weekend and hope the cards fall in their favor when the dust settles.

Kind of what I was thinking. Downside is the odds are likely we'd have to play Pittsburgh on the road in this scenario.

From the FanPosts. Good point -Joel

You have to root for a scenario that assumes you win. And there are no better two scenarios the Chiefs can run into than if the Dolphins win their noon game over the Patriots.

Before you say "No way the Patriots lose to Matt Moore!", keep in mind they are pretty much a lock to host the playoffs throughout, win or lose. (It is very hard to imagine Oakland winning their playoff game)

So assuming Miami beats New England (and the Chiefs take care of business), you wind up with the following seeds with a win at San Diego...

If Oakland beats Denver:

Oakland will be the 1 seed.
Kansas City will be the 5 seed playing at Houston.
Pittsburgh will host Miami.
This means that the Divisional round will most likely be: Pittsburgh at New England and Kansas City at Oakland.
The key part of this scenario is that the Chiefs will only have to beat EITHER New England or Pittsburgh, not both. Oh and also that the only two people holding us back from an AFC Championship would be Tom Savage and Matt McGloin...

If Oakland loses to Denver:
Patriots will be the 1 seed.
Kansas City will be the 2 seed, and will host the Divisional matchup.
Houston will host Oakland, Pittsburgh will host Miami.
This means that the Divisional round will most likely be: Oakland/Houston at New England and Pittsburgh at Kansas City.
If we lose to the Chargers, we of course would have our worst scenario (and be playing at Pittsburgh). But in my opinion, that isn't something we should be considering.

Bottom line: We become Dolphins fans at noon Sunday!
If Miami wins we are better off with Oakland winning and avoiding NE or Pitt until the AFCCG.

The chiefs it's easier that way.

Denver is currently the odds on favorite to win Sunday, FWIW..

Yup.

But it's fun to think about how much the playoff bracket can change on the final week. Literally every single AFC playoff seed is up for grabs.

The #3 and #4 seeds are locked up. Pittsburgh is 3, Houston is 4.
