NFL MVP vs SuperBowl Winning Team

The NFL MVP winner has not won the SuperBowl since Kurt Warner won the NFL MVP in 1999 and won the superbowl in 2000

Lamar Jackson is winning the MVP but odds are against the ravens winning the SuperBowl

He can have the NFL MVP.

Been there, done that. /Yawn

We're shooting for SB MVP now.

Winning the MVP is right up there with the SI and Madden cover jinxes.

The last two Pats SB titles have the roman numerals LI and LIII.

Lie.

Interesting.

It doesn't matter. Correlation does not imply causation.

Julian Edelman and Nick Foles have been the last two Super Bowl MVPs and people say that star power is more important than system timing.

So it has never happened?

StockingAnarchy12 12-13-2019 07:35 PM

Need to remember that there are 32 teams. 12 playoff teams.

Every season there is one MVP. There is a 1/12 chance that a MVP wins a SB even if they make playoffs.

I am not sold on Jackson yet. I think he's a mediocre passer who is playing behind a great O-line while his team has a great defense. If bad teams defend the pass, he can run wild on them. And if they defend the run, he's got a good enough O-line to buy him time to deal with the pressure. Against good teams, though, it's a different story:

Lamar Jackson has PASSED against some of the best and worst PASS defenses in the NFL

LJ in 7g vs teams ranked 20th or worse by DVOA: 124 of 174, 71.2% comp, 1,658 yards, 24 TD, 0 INT, 9.5 Y/A

In 7g vs teams in top 15: 121 of 196, 61.7%, 1,231 yards, 9 TD, 6 INT, 6.3 Y/A

He struggled against KC at a time when our pass defense had not really gelled. We are much better now against the pass. And the 49ers and the Bills showed that if you use your pass defense and do not give him time to make plays, he has a hard time making plays. Notice that <30% of his TDs came across teams in the top 50% of DVOA. Unlike a certain PMII.

It's a shame more non-QB's don't get to win MVP.

Maybe Offensive MVP and Defensive MVP would be more appropriate and get rid of some of the other awards.

I hope Lamar wins it, he deserves it. I also hope the streak of MVP’s not playing in the SB continues.

That’s been my general feeling about him all year. He’s really feasted on the bad teams and bad defenses. And he’s just not an elite passer.

Doesn’t mean he won’t win the SB. Just means that they’re not the unbeatable machine they’re being made out to be. There are weaknesses to exploit in his game and their D.

All this tells me is it’s due to happen again.

Too bad that wasn’t us last year.
