Went on Vacation

on a cruise to Amber cove DR, St Thomas USVI, San Juan PR, and Grad Turk.
when walking around in San Juan I get a call from the pet hotel my dogs were staying, the manager said that my male dog diesel broke his leg. He had surgery today and finally comes home in the morning.
Once I got the news that day I no longer felt like being on vacation. Good news, they are paying the 8k plus for the surgery since there are no underlying causes.

That's ruff...

All joking aside, do you know how it happened? Neglect from the pet hotel or just a legitimate accident?

I've boarded my dog when I've had to go out of town for work, and the reason I selected the place she goes is because they have cameras and you can watch them at any point. Definitely gave me some peace of mind.

That's good that they are handling the bill.

They said there is no video of how it happen and they do not know how it happened. They took him out in the moring to go bathroom then a couple hours later when the took him out to play he was limping.

Well, at least he/she is ok and they took care of it for you.

How was the cruise? I've had a Royal Caribbean cruise canceled in 2019 because of a hurricane before being canceled again in 2020. Are they nutty with the rules or do they leave you alone for the most part?

Not really, mask on the inside of the ship, no ask outside.

Must show vac card, must have neg covid test 48 hours before.

IF not vacced must have neg test 3 days before and cant get off the ship.

I'm sorry that that happened. That would definitely ruin a vacation for sure. But, I'm happy your pup is doing okay.

Jeez...$8K for a broken leg? That's extremely steep. My dog got hit by a car and broke its leg in 3 pieces. Had to put plates and screws in it by a specialist who also works at the pet ER. My bill was around $3K total.

Probably because it was PR.

That being said, my daughter just rescued a cat that got hit by a car, crushing it's pelvis and one of its back legs.

Cost $800.

Hopefully it was a fluke thing and not the result of some kind of negligence. I had a cat that got a compound fracture on his leg just from jumping off the top of our fence into the grass. The cat wasn't very old and did jumps like that all the time, but I guess he just hit it at just the right spot and it snapped like a twig.

5k for the surgery and another 3k for my dog being in the hospital till they could do the surgery today.

They kept him on pain meds, it was a spiral fracture in his femur bone.

They thought it was cancer due to seeing something on the x-rays but after doing some more x-rays and surgery they seem to think it's not cancer.

Thank you all for the well wishes, my diesel comes home today after what the dog ortho said was one of the worst spiral fractures he has seen in 35 years.
