Question about the log in function

I'm not much of a tech guy. So recently, I've noticed that I get logged out several times a day. If I'm not actively on the site posting or reading then after a bit, I get logged out. It lets me log right back in just fine but it's a pain in the ass. Only does this on my computer at my office and not my phone. Is there a setting that I need to change? Thank you

I assume you're checking the "Keep me logged in" (or whatever it says) next to the user/password fields?

If you're checking that and it's still logging you out, it might be a company cookie policy... in Chrome, you can go to settings, Privacy and security, cookies.. and it'll show you if it's set to allow all cookies or to block.... but if it's set by group policy, you probably wouldn't be able to change the setting (or else would want to allow cookies or only block 3rd party cookies).

Definitely look at your cookie settings like Bearcat suggested.

The other thing you might do is check whether or not you're in "privacy" or "incognito" mode. Those modes do not respect your cookie settings and generally reset them by default if you close the tab or your browser.

Ok thanks guys. I'll check it out

God dammit n00b!

(I actually had the same question once. It was the keep me logged in button.)

The same thing happened to me probably 4 months ago or so. It was terribly annoying and then just stopped happening all of the sudden.

Which was great for me since I'm somewhat tech illiterate. Wish I had a suggestion for you instead of just saying been there done that.

One other thing:

I just noticed that Chiefsplanet is using secure HTTP rather than open. HTTPS is session based, so incognito mode will terminate your session the minute you close the tab, causing you to have to re-login.

I know very little about logging in, but I'm well-versed in logging out. I do it every morning like clockwork.

I do hit the "remember me" button but it doesn't seem to matter. I don't think I'm in privacy or incognito mode. How do I tell if I am?

You're in incognito mode if you're wearing sunglasses and a fake mustache. Google picks up on it.

But if you don't know what incognito mode is, you're likely not in it.

I have the same problem with my phone. It logs me out no matter what I do, so I just log in every time. I don't have that issue with my computer. I'm half-wondering if it's because I leave the tab open on my phone and not my computer. I wonder if it logs me out for inactivity or something. I may have to try an experiment.

I also have a question. The room has been freezing up on me when I’m trying to type. I’ve had more than one screw up trying to be grammatically correct with my posts.

I just minimize the window.

Relatedly, check your bookmarks to make sure that it's not still pointing to http:// - I've noticed that seems to cause some problems while https:// works fine.

I had a log dump yesterday

Also try clearing your browser cache. Tell me what browser you use, and I can give you exact instructions. But it's generally about the same for all browsers.
