Have we overlooked safety as a position of need?
The current roster has four safeties:
Justin Reid Bryan Cook Nazeeh Johnson Mike Edwards Other dbs: Bush, Bootle The loss of Thornhill certainly leaves a role to fill. I don't know enough about Johnson and edwards and their ability to fit that role. Anyone else have more knowledge about how it looks for next year? |
Edwards was signed to take Thornhills roster spot, Reid is a well paid FA and Cook was a second round pick...Deon Bush is also a good veteran backup.
The odds they invest at this position at all is slim. |
Yeah, I think Edwards is a starter at this point and Cook is your 3rd safety. Not really a need as I see it.
|
It's also a complete balls safety year.

I think they'll take a safety at some point in the draft. Been saying that for a few months now. But i don't expect it till like day 3.

Jartavius Martin has some of that but he's inexperienced. |
Interesting question. I don't think it is a position of need, but I also would NOT say that the Chiefs have the best Safeties in the NFL.
I think they could go into the season with Reid, Cook, and Edwards as getting the defensive snaps and Bush filling in if needed. I believe Bryan Cook will grow and get better. Mike Edwards started last season for Tampa Bay and had 84 tackles in 13 games. Mike missed a few games with hamstring injury last year. Chiefs will always look to get better. I could see a player that can play CB/Safety from the 4th round on being a draft target. |
Not at all. Cook will have a bigger role, and Edwards will do a lot of the things Thornhill did for us.
They'll draft one on day 3 probably, but your top 4 are probably set. |

I hope we don't go Safety in the 2nd round. That would mean the 2nd rounder, Bryan Cook, or Mike Edwards is spending a lot of time not playing.
|
Wouldn't be surprised if they take a guy from R4 onwards with CB/S versatility. Feels like there may be some better options to shift across from CB than there is straight safeties.
|
I'm no expert, but really with Reid, Cook, and Edwards I wouldn't be mad if they didn't draft a S this year. If they luck into one that's destined to be great, wonderful, draft him, but otherwise I don't think there's a big need for another S.

No.

I've been consistently snagging S Daniel Scott in the 7th round in my mocks. Dude is insanely athletic. Worst case, we have a good depth piece/special teamer.
