RIP Michael Gambon

Rest well Dumbledore

Great in Layer Cake.

HC_Chief 09-28-2023 07:22 AM

For me, most famous for having a track corner named after him.

He was a witty, talented man. RIP

ReynardMuldrake 09-28-2023 07:27 AM

R.I.P. I'm going to take a corner way too fast in his honor.

Eleazar 09-28-2023 07:31 AM

Who?

Rasputin 09-28-2023 07:32 AM

He had a cool wizard beard. I've been called Dumbledore before but usually I get called Gandalf..

RIP

Never heard of this person.

He took over in an impossible role, following in the footsteps of the late-great Richard Harris after the second movie and had to carry that role throughout the remainder of his time with the franchise. He did a remarkable job given the circumstances and took over the role to make it his own. Godspeed sir, RIP.

Goddamn. I was just watching The King’s Speech last night with him as George V, and I was thinking, “Man what a great actor.”

Any other old actors you want me to kill off?

You could say he's gone 'cross the line...'

Yeah, Gambon went from a character actor to a final corner where idiot celebrities ended up in the grass. All because 20 odd years ago he overheated a turn in a Suzuki...

I prefer his Dumbledore over Harris, to be honest. I know Harris was dealing with some health problems there at the end, but Gambon’s portrayal had more gravitas. Felt like a more powerful wizard. Less feeble.

I preferred Harris until I read the books.

Gambon is a more faithful portrayal, IMO. He has an undercurrent of...I dunno...meanness that I don't think Harris had. And that I think the book Dumbledore certainly did on occasion.

But not this occasion! :p
