KU drops to No. 18 in coaches’ poll; MU leaps to 10th

A little high for Mizzou. Just right for KU.

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/f...mu-leaps-10th/

Reerun_KC 02-16-2009 12:22 PM

Thats okay...

For as young as we are, we are right were we need to be...

teedubya 02-16-2009 12:27 PM

ok then.

Reerun_KC 02-16-2009 12:29 PM

NO biggie, If we were loaded with upper classmen, I would expect this team to be in top 10...

But we are not, we lost them at the Paige by 2 pts... They still have to play at Allen...

Mr. Plow 02-16-2009 12:29 PM

So, essentially MU jump 15 spots in two weeks? Good for them - too high - but good for them.

Also, how could they NOT make UNC #1 after their victory in the greatest rivalry in any sport, any where, at any time?

Mr. Plow 02-16-2009 12:33 PM

Also, how Duke is a top 10 team after losing 4 of 6 and 2 in a row is beyond me.

Mizzou moved up because a lot of teams in front of them lost.

The rankings are very fluid, but frankly, we're one of the hottest teams in the country.

No reason we shouldn't be that high after the way we've played the last month or so.

DeezNutz 02-16-2009 12:37 PM

Good for Mizzou.

Seems like a long way from the Snyder days, all of a sudden.

True. You get the benefit of other teams losing - which is probably why KU only dropped 2 places.

MU is a hot team right now - the matchup in Allen is going to be a good one - but I still think 10 is too high. But, you play with what you are given and you can't change it.

Personally, I think both KU & MU are around the #15 mark.

Joe Lunardi said this morning that Mizzou is still the most underrated team in America.

These last 5 games are going to be brutal though, and I'm sure people will move on to the new hot team if we go 2-3 or 3-2.

Eh - you'll see where you really belong as far as ranking. They may exceed your - and mine - expectations and prove they are a top 10 team. They may lose a couple and settle in at their 15ish ranking. Just enjoy the ride. Win or lose.

Just watching KU day in/day out, I know - or feel - they are right where they should be. This KU team is not a top 10 team. Anything higher than 14/15 and I would they were over ranked. But, that's me.

Bearcat 02-16-2009 12:47 PM

Interesting that Mizzou jumped Arizona State, who technically had a better week (beat then #6 UCLA, who I thought was overrated at 6, because they had NO clue what to do in the final couple of minutes against ASU).

A lot of teams around 10-20 lost this week, so outside of jumping ASU, I guess Mizzou deserves to be there in a power-ranking/who's-playing-well-right-now sort of way (no offense ;) ).

Mizzou has a stretch of KSU-@KU-OU while KU has Neb-@OU-MU and KSU has @MU-Neb-@OSU. Should be fun. :)

We have Iowa State before Nebraska. Both at home.

Four of our last 5 at home. I'll take it!

As has been said, the reason MU moved up so much is because of who ahead of us lost. 10 teams from #5-16 in the AP Top 25 poll lost last week.

Yeah, I skipped the Colorados and ISUs of the world... Mizzou has to take care of CU before their stretch and KSU has some random OOC game and ISU before their stretch.

I'm glad this stretch is coming now, because it'll tell us a lot more about the team. If it was in January (2 road games in Columbia and Manhattan, followed a week later @OU, etc), they would have looked awful to start conference play. Playing KSU at home when they were struggling, Colorado twice in January, and not-terribly-difficult road games in Ames and Lincoln is what they needed at the time, which will only help them now.

MU and KU both #3 seeds at Boise? I hope, I hope, I hope that Mizzou gets seeded in Kansas City. That would be freakin' awesome.

I don't take any conference game for granted. Though we should beat both fairly easily at home.

This is fun having this discussion with the 3 schools still very much in it.

Wow, KU was a 4 last week. I just don't see the team making it to the Sweet 16, mostly because they aren't supposed to... my expectation at the beginning of the year was to make it to the tournament and see a first-weekend exit. And for the same reason - inexperience - I'd think that about Mizzou, too. Not that either team couldn't make it into the second weekend... but the tournament is a fickle bitch.

It doesn't make sense to send the Missouri pod to Boise and let the pod with Arizona State and Utah St. go to KC.

Unfortunately for KU they have us in a pod with a bunch of western teams (except Miami) so it makes more sense.

Obviously it's not official. How fun would it be to have KU and Mizzou in the same arena?

I think MU should probably slot in that 15-18 range due to their nature. That team's just a little to streaky to be a true top 10 team. The next 3 weeks will tell the tale.

Ultimately I figure both MU and KU will be a 5 seed somewhere. I'd love to see that 3 in the midwestern bracket for MU though. If they want KC, they'd better bump off OK and steal that #2 seed.

Duke is 5th in RPI and have had one of the toughest schedules in the nation. A 20-5 record considering that is very good. And yet you want these voters to put them behind Missouri?

Too bad both KU and MU can't make it to the Sprint Center. KC will most likely get a 1/16-8/9 with OU, so they aren't going to put Mizzou and Kansas in a potential 4/5 matchup in the Sprint Center... even though that would be about the best thing that's ever happened to the place. :)

So the choice was Duke at #9 & MU at #10 or MU at #9 & Duke at #10? I doubt it.

MU got the benefit of teams ahead of them losing and with a good week of ball to jump up 8 spots. Duke losses 2 straight games and they drop 4.

Pretty sure the defense lost 3 out of the 4 games. Including against your team, where Daniel led 2 go ahead drives in the 4th quarter, yet our defense gave it away. Remember that game?

Im not gunna deny Daniel fell apart after the Nebraska game, but he still threw for 4400 yards, 39 TD and a crazy 72% completion rating.

The defense lost the Texas, OU and Kansas games. Daniel lost 2 NFL receivers and experience at OL for his senior year. Danario Alexander wasn't near 100% and Coffman was hobbled at the end of the year, so all he had was Maclin, Saunders and Perry who underachieved once again.

I know your a KU fan, so I guess I understand your stupitidy and bias towards hating Chase Daniel, I mean he did ruin your perfect little season last year.

That's true, but Self is a great coach. I don't think a sweet sixteen is out of the question. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised with elite eight. However, I definitely don't want to see a Bucknell or Bradley, which can happen with a young team. Oh well, this team really has no expectations to be met.

I remember Chase Daniel choking and playing a major part in MU's collapse last season, yes.

Kind of ironic, eh. Especially considering that they used to always claim that KU fans would try to switch the topic to hoops in a football discussion.

In the ESPN poll it was.

And you didn't answer my question. I think you know the answer, though.

Of course KU fans could bring up the injuries to some key players that really hurt us in the MU game in 2007. Goes both ways, silly little MUron.

Yep. How many turnovers did he have against KU this year? 3? 4? Yep, it was all on the defense.
