**** Official 2021-2022 NHL Thread ****

...okay, not really, but the expansion draft is tonight.
|
The best part of this is how the NHL is happy Las Vegas was good right away and want the same here..
While in the NFL Carolina and Jacksonville being good right away made them change the rules to make it way harder like yea **** that! |
Aww, no Carey Price.

It would be interesting to know what goes on behind the scenes.... if the Kraken were considering it, I'm sure there are talks between teams that aren't supposed to happen, plus all of the UFA strategy, etc. |

Kraken legit get an D- (borderline F) for that draft.
There were so many good players that they could've taken that would have sprinkled in some top-6 offense for them, but they didn't. Defense isn't bad at all, but I suspect they'll make a trade or two and goaltending will be good for the start. I hope Ron Francis is going to work on the offense within the next three weeks. |

Hoo boy...
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="et" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Avs?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Avs</a> Cale Makar 6 years, 9M AAV <a href="https://t.co/SrGUv4PXIl">https://t.co/SrGUv4PXIl</a></p>— Rick Sadowski (@RickS7) <a href="https://twitter.com/RickS7/status/1418946855568777216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 24, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Now we just have to get Landy done. |

That said, the Avs need to get it done in the next couple of years or his patience might start wearing thin. |
Time to get that Makar jersey. PBJ ....and from that one site, might be here by opening night. LMAO
Apparent Landeskog's hang-up is years, Landeskog wants 7 and the Avalanche are offering five, but $$ being offered is in line. Saw a reddit post, if only there was a number between 5 and 7.... |
Fleury traded to the Blackhawks... wonder if there was something between him and DeBoer, given the idiocy with splitting time in the playoffs and now trading him for almost nothing. Probably could have gotten more at the deadline from a team needing a playoff rental.

I think the NHL needs to seriously evaluate their cap system and make some changes to allow teams more flexibility. Something along the lines as 1 compliance buy-out per 2 seasons with no cap implications would be something maybe the NHL and NHLPA could agree on. |

Yeah, you would think salaries would adjust a bit due to issues like that, but teams can't help themselves when it comes to those huge deals. Ovechkin signed for nearly $50 million and it's a bit strange that it could be considered a discount at $9.5/per, yet him and Backstrom now account for something like 22% of their cap hit. |
Landy!

Well, I knew it was a lot to ask to get them ALL done, but I'm bummed that Grubi is gone.

That's a lot for the guy to live up to. |

Yeah, puts him in the top 10.
Well, I hear Fleury doesn't want to play in Chicago.... |

That said, I have a feeling we're gonna miss him. |

Flip-side is they have enough cap to bring Saad back. |
I am disappoint.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Hearing the Coyotes are trading Darcy Kuemper to Colorado for a first-rounder pick and defenseman Conor Timmins.</p>— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) <a href="https://twitter.com/CraigSMorgan/status/1420528874144747523?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 28, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Hmm....
I thought Timmins did some good things in the playoffs, but completely see why he's expendable. Wonder what else Sakic is thinking in terms of goalie. |
Saad to the Blues. :(
5 years, $4.5 per. |
Quote:
He'll be solid for the Blues, though. I wish we could have locked him up. |
Quote:
If they actually get something of value when trading Tarasenko, and/or can resign Bozak - I think they'll be OK. So far Buchnevich > Hoffman and Saad > Schwartz. |
Another good move.
Avs re-sign F Tyson Jost to a two-year, $4mil contract with an AAV of $2mil https://www.denverpost.com/2021/07/3...ign-two-years/ |
Evander Kane’s pregnant wife says NHL star tanked games for gambling profit
“How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games to win money?” she wrote. “Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.” In another, the wife of the forward wrote, “Can someone ask (Commissioner) Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?” https://nypost.com/2021/08/01/evande...g-profit-wife/ Trouble in paradise: https://nypost.com/wp-content/upload...trip=all&w=640 Pretty hot: https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/08...7823696031.jpg |

This sucks, love the location across from the Cardinals' stadium and within a nice entertainment district. Tempe might be cool though.

Lightning don't seem thrilled to be back at work, from what I've watched so far.
Interested to see how well ESPN+ works (even though the Avalanche are on TNT tomorrow night)... haven't used it since they started charging for it, and it sucked pretty bad back then (MNF looked far better last night though). |
Leafs/Canadiens already far better than last night's hockey.
And why the hell would the NHL schedule Rangers/Caps for their first game on TNT? I mean, sure, ratings and all.... I'm sure nothing will go wrong. LMAO |
Seattle gave us a big fight last night but we pulled through..still hoping my knights trade for Eichel.
|
I really hate that they always open up with 8pm games for the Avs.
Now get off my lawn. :skip: |

I feel like the Avs early season has some similarities to the Chiefs early season. Lots of good teams, and their injuries/COVID/suspensions haven't helped.
Hopefully they can kick it into gear when November rolls around and the schedule softens up. |

They just got outworked the other day, but also nice to see some good play from the bottom offensive lines. |
Enjoying ESPN+ so far, too... no issues and I've read a couple of Avalanche games have been on ESPN+ and not blacked out locally.
I did like seeing the period markers on nhl.tv when I'm behind in a game, but I'll trade that for being able to skip commercials on ESPN+ (and of course the price tag). |

So, how bout them BlackHawks?

Hi Avs fans.. enjoy the Knights game as much as i did? :D how did yall let us beat yall with our reserves in your own building and make it five wins in a row?? Then after a big win there my boys go to Dallas the next day and pull off another upset in overtime after being one minute from defeat and emptying the net...after losing four starters to injury and then losing four games in a row things were looking a little dicey..now we're rolling and Jacky Eichel looks like he's coming to town..LIFE IS GOOD in the knighthood :thumb:

By the time you're in the NHL, you've skated thousands of times and have played in hundreds of games, while losing a decent number of them.... they have former teammates (NHL or not), players they grew up with on other teams, offseason workout buddies. There's no "marking down this late-October game 4 months later on the calendar". ROFLLMAO I mean, i know you're just a dumbass troll, but JFC I hope all of your hot takes are an act. LMAO |

The Yotes have a pretty tough October schedule, but still pretty impressive just how badly they've tanked. Sky Harbor is also complaining about the proposed Tempe arena and proximity to the airport.
Good to see the Avalanche getting back on track a little, at least through two periods. |
Yay. Entertaining game.

This isn't Gruden, who wrote some really, terrible things that aren't illegal but are just shit things to write in general. This is multiple people prioritizing winning over the well-being of others. Cheveldayoff should resign as well. |
