I want to show you my newest sports card...
The sports card market is absolutely booming right now. I sold off enough of my other stuff to buy this. There are only 10 of them. It is indescribably beautiful.

aaandddd how much was that??
I'm low end junk wax guy. I have a few older cards. But nothing spectacular. and I'm not into auto's and patch cards |
****ing shame it's sticker autos. Otherwise sweet ads card
|
that really should be Deberg in there.
Montana wasnt a Chief! 2 lousy years! https://i.gifer.com/BHHm.gif |
couple grand on ebay. Nice pick up.
|
shame patrick's signature sucks
joe had a beautiful sig |
Let's be honest, Patrick's signature is a penis blowing a load.
|
Damn dude, nice pick up!
|
I figured I better buy it now because I fear that Lenny may not have a lot of signatures left in him. He was looking pretty frail last time I saw a pic of him.
|
Damn fine pick up!! :thumb:
I have two full size helmets. One is signed by Montana and Dawson. The other, my Wife got me for Christmas - Mahomes signature. My "plan" is to eventually get Patrick to sign the other helmet. *fingers crossed!* Congratulations on the card!! |
Do they have one with signatures from Matt Cassel, Brady Quinn and Kyle Orton?
|

One has sold for 1300. The Mahomes, Kelce, Hill Trio is interesting. Half the price as well. |
Quote:
they may have one of those booklet cards that folds out with the other side having Todd Blackledge, Brodie Croyle, and Mark Vlasic |
Super cool, money well spent :thumb:
|
That's amazing.
Card market is booming, eh? Is that just for newer players, or are older player cards jumping? I've quite the collection of Barry Sanders rarities that tanked as soon as he retired. |

Mahomes stuff is astro-freaking-nomical! Higher now than when he won the Super Bowl. Pretty much anything basketball related is at levels never seen before. A Mike Trout card set a modern day baseball card record a couple nights ago at $900,000. You would think high unemployment and quarantine would have lead to a huge drop in prices, but it's been the exact opposite. I assume it is because the casual collector with lots of spending money is locked inside their house with nothing to do but buy stuff online. |

Literally, junk wax hof rookies became worth money almost overnight. I don't get it. There isn't a 1989 topps football card on the planet I would spend $30 for (in psa10), but both Sanders', Aikman, Irvin, and Thurman Thomas shot through the roof. I don't know if it was a shill auction, but the Thurman Thomas just went for $177. As for Barry Sanders, early stuff (in high grade) is worth money. I had sent in a 1989 score I had as a kid to get graded. I just needed it to round out a submission and hell if it didn't come back psa10. I was thrilled. At the time, that turned it into about a $175 card. Now its regularly going north of $650-700. |

The bottom has to drop at some point. The supply exceeds the demand, at least I would think so. |
the funny thing about that card which is an awesome card btw is the montana and len actually bring the value down

And unlike so many other legends who go on to other teams in their twilight years, Joe came in and turned the whole thing around immediately Had us a Bruce Smith sack away from another SB appearance only two years in... he damn sure wasnt here for a lazy paycheck, the man was Golden |

Exact same card is on ebay for 99K if anyone's interested. |
I'd prefer it to have my all time favorite chief, Trent Green, instead of Montana.
|
I'm long time in the sportscard industry, worked at an auction house in Chicago for a while. Prices have exploded, Basketball is out of this galaxy.
My favorite football card is this PM with the righteous part of the patch from his draft night cap. I take her out just to chat some times. https://i917.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8wjjjasl.jpg |
Yeah, that's a pretty awesome card.
|
Market is booming, eh? Might be time to dig out my collection. I’ve got a stupid amount of quality stuff from the 80’s and 90’s in football, and then a crazy amount of baseball cards from the 50’s on.
|
surprising that the sports card market was booming. I remember I was spending all I could on them in my younger teenage years and then realized that I had no money and stopped and never bought another pack again. Had an entire binder dedicated to the Chiefs, it's probably still at my mom's house.
|
Cool card!
I have no desire to sort through any of my old stuff, but it sounds like I need to grab the Jordan collection and at least the rookie cards and see if someone will make it worth my time to off load everything else sight unseen. |
Quote:
late 80s and 90s are still junk wax ,so to say. |
Would have had a bunch of Mahomes rookie cards this past weekend if Goldin didn’t have so many problems with their auction. I’m trying to scoop up everything I can from his rookie season but this is an amazing card. Congrats!

Great card btw... |

Just to give you all an idea of how ridiculous Mahomes stuff is right now. This card sold on April 25 on ebay for $86,000

That’s sweet. |
I purchased a few nice Mahomes PSA 10 RCs about a year ago. Every one is going for 3-4 times what I paid for it. My nicest is a PSA 10 Prizm Purple Crystals #’d/75. I also wanted an auto but I’m not sure how much I’m willing to spend to get one.
|
I’ve seen several stories about the sports card market. I wonder why all of a sudden it’s hot again? Dad’s hanging out with kids showing them their collections? Interesting

#9/10 of the same card is listed at $1200 OBO . |
I've got some 90's cards in the safe that I haven't looked at in years. They used to be cool but not sure what they'd be worth now. Where do you guys look up the value of old cards these days?

I’m thinking real hard about dumping my Clemente rookie for this. I’d enjoy this one much more...hell Bob has been dead almost 50 years now. Even though he was my guy in the 60’s it’s time I move onto a younger dude. https://youtu.be/0UUy65ZpSP0 |

But pay attention to condition. |
Quote:
Depends on those 90's cards. Basketball has risen quite nicely. Anything Jordan sells. Pippen, Magic, Olajuwon, Miller etc. all are easy sales as well. Kobe, easy sale... Football and baseball still lag behind, but have risen recently as well. Junk wax boxes from the late 80's to early 90's I was buying for $3-5 per box just 2 years ago. Now they are selling for $30-80. |
Quote:
I can't see Clemente ever losing value at this point. However, I do see these new cards with their astronomical values going down in value in a few years. |

How do you find that information? |
Quote:
Yeah I remember when I got it graded in the early 90’s & the book value was $1000. I think I saw a NM going for $10,000. I was so disappointed about that grade. I was hoping for a Mint grade. Now they have Gem Mint grades?!?!?!?!? Check this out: https://www.ebay.com/itm/192914014894 |

I’ve hung onto it for 60 years now. I’ve looked at it so long that I’m bored with it. It’s been my main card for awhile since I sold my 52 Topps Mantle 20 years ago. I was so fortunately as a kid growing up that I loved rookie cards & my mom didn’t throw them out in the 60’s. Having 3 HOFers on one card is pretty cool though & covers my entire life as a Chiefs fan. |

Same seller has the #5/20 for for $500 less. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PATRICK-MAH...6cd50fe31a2455 There is one more listed for 850/obo. But the bar looks a little more scuffed. |

Yep. Crazy prices right now. Many people are becoming millionaires. The market for cards couldn't be any better than it is. We have reached a high in the market and IMO it is the time to sell before it falls again. |
Quote:
A 52 Mantle graded even with a grade of 1 would fetch 15-20k nowadays. It's amazing how much card prices has risen in the past decade. |
Quote:
It’s a PSA 8. I was really into it the late 70’s & early 80’s. Then it became a business & ruined it. |
My cards have been relegated to several closets in a bunch of cases for awhile since I got married. Opened one just to see what was in it. Not bad pull.

Very nice. Have you ever thought of having a place like PWCC sell it for you? They have recent sale for a PSA 8(OC) @ 4,600. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Topps-...p2047675.l2557 |

I remember back in the early 90s, my Wife and I took our Son to a card show - he was really into cards then. Anyway, Some kid was selling unopened packs of cards (don't remember the name now) but there was a "special" card in some of the packs. Frank Thomas.
I bought a pack from the kid (just for fun) and opened it up. Starting browsing the cards and lo and behold, there it was! Some older man was walking by and offered me $400 on the spot for the card. Did I sell it? You bet your sweet ass I did! |
