ROFL
From the "baseball players are so superstitious, its hilarious" department... Remember that mouse the players saw and were chasing in their clubhouse before the game? Well, apparently Liam Hendricks caught it, put it in a box, and took the mouse into the Royals bullpen before the game. After they came back and won the game, the Royals players started calling it the "rally mouse". Well, OK. In that case I hope they get a cage and take that mouse with them on Tuesday. I don't think the mouse has super powers, but if the players think its good luck, then thats probably a good thing for them to have with them. |
Would Tuesday be the wildcard game vs. Oakland?
|
In for a playoff spot clinching win.

but, yeah it would be. |
I'm not gonna start the Saturday game thread, but I will probably do Sunday. Also, I'm only going to start the Wild Card thread if its not in KC.
|
Any idea on the time KC would (presumably) play Tuesday? I have a meeting Tuesday night at 7 :(
|
In early. Go Royals! I BARELY remember what it was like in the early 80s. Please make this happen again. Side note: funny how sports make you forget about life's everyday issues!

There was quite a scene in the visiting clubhouse before the game. Royals RHP Liam Hendricks was on all fours while leading the charge to capture a mouse hiding in one corner. He eventually trapped it in a box and took it to the bullpen for the game, with the players dubbing it the "Rally Mouse." Hendricks hopes to find the same mouse -- or another one -- before Saturday's game and keep it in the bullpen. "Whatever works, man," manager Ned Yost said. |

The TV Listings are saying 7pm, but I don't know if that means anything. (It makes sense though, when they have 1 or 2 west coast teams and no east coast teams, then they usually have it at night to maximize the ratings) |

Both wild card games started at 8 PM ET last year. I think at worst... if the game is on the west coast, maybe it starts at 9 ET instead?

If the Royals make it to the ALCS I'll probably sit out because these postseason tickets are so expensive, but if by some miracle they actually get to the World Series, then obviously it will be mandatory to go to at least one of those games. |
Did anybody see Chris Sale yesterday? He was indicating that the Tigers' hitters were being tipped off pitch locations from centerfield.
|
900 posts! Go Royals!
**** the playoffs right in the pussy |

The signs were not being stolen, and if they thought they were, it would have been easy for Chris and his catcher to deal with it using multiple signs. |
Come on, let's get a royals win and tigers loss and make things interesting.

Great OP
Those other ones suck |

Third-hand rumor I heard from a friend of a friend...
Apparently, Ventura told Sale to drill Victor Martinez, but then wouldn't back him up. So, Sale, being pissed, told the White Sox he wasn't coming to the ballpark the rest of the year, and spent yesterday at his house playing Xbox. It's third hand, but it's fun/funny, and if true shows again what a terrible manager Robin Ventura is. |

We hit 100% on baseball prospectus this morning. (so, some big number that rounds up to 100%.)
Oakland is at 98.8%, Cleveland 0.7%, Seattle 0.5%. |
Lets wrap this up tonight.

Right-handed slugger Josh Willingham has decided to retire following the conclusion of the 2014 campaign, according to a report from Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. According to Berardino, the 35-year-old Willingham has told people close to him that he is “100 percent retiring,” although agent Matt Sosnick tells MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes that “Josh and [his wife] Ginger haven’t made a definitive decision.”
|
Pretty sure Josh retired on some of his recent ab's

Sad way to go out if that's it for him. |
TBS is now saying 7pm central for the wild card game in the schedule on their web site.

I'm very excited. 99% sure we're toast for the division, but I'll take any ticket into the playoffs. Got gotta crawl before you walk.
|
So is there a chance that the A's are forced to use Lester on Sunday just to try to get in? I know it's unlikely and would be on 3 days rest, but I was thinking about that today.
Even if they don't, I like our chances against Oakland or Seattle. Seriously, they're both choking on bags 'o dicks right now. Look at this week, even the suspended game and the game we lost in Cleveland. The offense has improved a bit. They're putting up a nice fight every game. |
What are our chances on the division? Or have we given up on that?

It's not happening, but that sure would be enjoyable. |

Just for fun, I'll calculate a back of the envelope probability. I will use these rough assumptions: P(Detroit loss) = 40% per game P(KC win) = 55% per game Given that, then: P(we outright win the division with no 163rd game) = 1.06% P(we tie and force a tiebreaker game on Monday in Detroit) = 7.41% That is.... actually more likely than I expected. OK, lets assume the Twins are mailing it in and they only have a 1/3 chance of winning each game, which is pretty bad. P(we outright win the division with no 163rd game) = 0.62% P(we tie and force a tiebreaker game on Monday in Detroit) = 5.21% Still decent, considering I thought it was hopeless. OK, I guess we have about a 1 in 20 shot, give or take, of the Tigers not clinching the division by the end of Sunday. |
|
OMFG That is awesome.
|
PLEASE win tonight

For some reason that pic gave me chills, lol

Someone was saying that if KC ties Detroit, there will be a one game playoff. How is that when Detroit clearly has the head to head advantage? What gives? Also, if KC has head to head over Seattle, why didn't we clinch last night?
That shit has been bothering me... |
Because tiebreakers are only used in baseball to determine seeding/home field advantage.

All ties for a division, or wild card ties where there are more teams than wild cards available, are broken on the field. (so if we tie Oakland, we're #1 since Oakland still gets to have the 2nd wild card. If we're tied with both Oakland and Seattle, we'll have to play some complicated tiebreaker games to figure out who gets eliminated) edit: woops, double-beaten |

I still can't believe that this is even possible. |

I came home early and this is torture. How can I kill all these hours before the game?
|
What happens if they lose? Do they sit around for 2+ hours waiting for Seattle game to be over? And then do you party even if its midnight and you have a game tomorrow that would have meaning (Oak and home field?)
