Just a wild guess here, but it won't be the Bills. :hmmm:

Patriots lost at Miami last year and have struggled (relatively struggled) there in the past so that is a possible L.

Yeah, AT Miami has always been a headache for the Patriots. I remember one year when the one loss Patriots (like 12-1? 13-1) met the one WIN Dolphins (1-12? 1-13) and of course the Dolphins won. It was shocking.

And, honestly, that might be the biggest challenge. BB owns Tomlin, so the Steelers don't worry me. And for the rest, it's a bunch of "yeah, MAYBE....but I really doubt it."

So figure 14-2 or 13-3 at worst unless there's serious injuries or something weird happens.

Patriots W-L record inside and outside the division is basically the same during the Belichick/Brady era. The reality is that the Patriots have dominated across the board during their ridiculous run. It's not just getting fat on easy wins within the division. They've kicked ass across the board.

Sorry to ruin your narrative though!

The Patriots are 71-19 since 2003 in the AFC East. That’s a .788 winning percentage. Outside the division, they are 118-32 (.786).

I wouldn't completely discount @Miami.

I know they kinda suck, but they play NE weirdly tough. Those divisional games are always a little odd and pull better squads down because of the familiarity and basic rivalry kind of emotions that tend to flow.

I reiterate - **** the AFC East, man. That division has been such a POS for so long. The Patriots get HFA and a bye every single year and yes it's in part because they have Brady and Belichick, but it's also because that division has been a tire fire for damn near 20 years now.

Brady being good doesn't automatically mean that the rest of the AFC East has to be bad. Can't one of you guys put together an actual quality football team for 5-6 years?

DRM08 11-06-2018 03:43 PM

Need Mariota to play like he did last night. What are the odds of that happening? Probably not good. Another example of New England dodging bullets. They go on the road in a week where the inconsistent home QB is bound to crash back to Earth after a great one-off game against the Cowboys.

Imon Yourside 11-06-2018 03:44 PM

Miami even though they look like crap they always find a way and Brady hates the air down there I guess. Cutler ripped them a new one last year as my Dolphin buddy tells me.

Win out and not a single shit will be given what NE does.

I think the relentless run of victories shows just how significant the issues relating to those ridiculous scandals were to their victories. Of course, if the NFL hadn't robbed them of multiple draft picks for bogus reasons their winning percentage might be even higher!

But that's ok. They've done fine even without.

That's great - the point is that if the teams in the AFC East could come up with any kind of quality over a sustained period, the Patriots would play WORSE than their record against opponents who are less familiar with them and are playing without divisional tensions on the line.

You're not really going to argue that those haven't been 3 of the 5 worst run teams in the AFC for the last 20 years, are you? The Dolphins are probably the MOST successful of the lot and the best you can say about them is that they aren't generally embarrassing.

It's a bad division.

Mariota is Young Alex through and through. Watch him play much and the similarities are striking.

And the Pats like to fall into those shells and force teams to beat them in the red zone. Mariota doesn't have the arm strength or chops to pull that off, IMO.

I think Mariota gets them a bunch of FGs in that game and maybe a TD; something like 22 points off 5 FGs and a touch. The Patriots will give him between the 20s and bottle him up when he gets down there.

Of course they've been good across the board. But it still makes things a lot easier when that division has been utter pony shit for most of the past 2 decades.

JakeF 11-06-2018 03:54 PM

The Patriots generally seem to get stronger as the season goes along. Great coaching means they adapt and indentify their strength, weaknesses and then deal with them better than most teams.

I hope our defensive coaching staff is up to the task. If we don't improve dramatically on defense we will take it in the shorts in the playoffs again.

Congrats on beating up on a trash division for 20 years!

St. Patty's Fire 11-06-2018 03:56 PM

@Ten could be tricky

Former Pat guy coaching for the first time against Bill at home, team with a good defense that can punish Brady

Really comes down to whether Mariota decides to be shitty or above average

Also Pats have lost four of their last five games in Miami. If Tannehill is healthy that’s far from a given.

We’re gonna need to go either 15-1 or 14-2 imo

Pasta Little Brioni 11-06-2018 04:06 PM

Yea, but when you have the 'week off' against crappy opponents 6-plus weeks a season it's helpful. It allows a team to game plan/scout further out, break out new plays and get healthy for their harder opponents etc.

I think the Steelers finally beat them. It’s also going to be very interesting to see Vrabel gameplan against his former team. Patricia dominated Brady at home and the Titans have a decent defense.

I think they end up 13-3 while we go 14-2.

They've still got the Ravens, Chargers, Seahawks and Rams to go. Maybe i'm overrating the shit out of those teams, but a 2-2 finish there would be good IMO.

Should absolutely beat the Ravens at home. Chargers are good but don’t scare me at all, especially at Arrowhead in the cold. @Sea is tricky but the Hawks look pretty middling this year, the Chargers made them look very unimpressive amd the Chiefs are the better than the Chargers.

3-1 is what should be expected, would be very disappointed with 2-2.

Aside from the Rams who scares you?

Cardinals? nope
Raiders? Lol
Ravens? We play them at home and they have only scored 30 points once (Bills)they can’t keep up.
Chargers? Short week for TNF at Arrowhead. They won’t win.
Seahawks? We have 10 days to prepare for that game.

I seriously think that if we beat the Rams, we might just win out

Rams absolutely beatable. That's a 50/50 game. Anyone automatically predicting a loss there is suffering from battered Chiefs fan syndrome. Ravens are mediocre at best. Chargers can't beat us. Seahawks are Wilson and 52 dudes. I can't predict an NFL team to go 15-1 but it would be far from shocking if we did.

Their lack of edge pressure makes them a lot more vulnerable than I expected. Suh is more name than substance at this point and their interior 'backers are only marginally better than ours.

With Peters being lost and Talib hurt, I'm not convinced that's a better defense than ours.
