Boxing on showtime

Deontay Wilder trying to go 33-0 with 33 knockouts and win the heavyweight title over Bermane Stiverne

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deontay_Wilder

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermane_Stiverne

Might be the first American champ in heavyweight boxing since 2007

TribalElder 01-17-2015 10:40 PM

America vs Canada

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 10:41 PM

Wilder has faced the worst opposition of any HW title challenger of perhaps anyone in Heavyweight history.

The fight two fights ago between Imam and Maldonado was awesome. The third round had Maldonado knocking down Imam, then Imam knocked the shit out of Maldonado twice. He looked absolutely starched after both, but still got up.

The last fight was stopped too soon, even if Ruiz was going down.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 10:43 PM

This should be a good one.

Santa Cruz fight was good just before this one. The ref stopped it after a barrage of unanswered punches

TribalElder 01-17-2015 10:48 PM

Dude coming in witha bunch of belts

He was fighting back. That was a premature stoppage. Also, to Don King: ****ing die.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 10:59 PM

Given how soft Stiverne's belly is, you'd think that Wilder would want to use that jab to soften him up.

First round: 10-9 Wilder, more for activity than accuracy.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:02 PM

I wonder if Stiverne knows that you can use your legs and head movement to slip punches. He just seems content to catch those punches with his hands.

Holy shit at the end of that round

ROFL ROFL

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:03 PM

Wilder got tackled

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:04 PM

The Santa Cruz fight was stopped way too early

This ones good so far

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:04 PM

Wilder better not punch himself out too early

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:04 PM

You can't fight a taller fighter with good straight punches unless you can slip them. Stiverne is fighting like a dumbass.

30-27 Wilder, but he is expending a lot of energy with his punch output. His legs already look a little heavy.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:06 PM

They said on the radio that the soldiers stationed at the nearby base were excited because if this didn't sell out (it was expected not too) they got free tickets to fill the arena for tv purposes

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:07 PM

Wilder has like 5 inch reach advantage

Pointing him to death with that jab in the scorecard

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:09 PM

If Wilder keeps leaving his right so low when he jabs he's eventually going to get starched. I'd give that round to Stiverne on ring generalship.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:09 PM

Wilder looks like he is getting tired

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:10 PM

Wilder might have punched himself out too early LMAO

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:13 PM

Pretty much no stiffness in Wilder's jab now. He's just pawing with it. Wilder's shown more chin than I expected, but his stamina looks pretty questionable right now.

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:15 PM

Wilder making GREAT use of that reach

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:15 PM

Throwing hands

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:17 PM

Keeping that right low off the jab just got Wilder tagged. Fortunately for Wilder, Stiverne is the negative reciprocal of '88 Mike Tyson from an aggressiveness standpoint.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:17 PM

Wilder is gonna get caught slipping with his hands down after the initial exchange

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:18 PM

More coffee clatch than brawl.

http://ib2.huluim.com/video/4954205?...S&size=600x400

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:19 PM

They break pretty clean at the end of the rounds

Surprised one of them doesn't try to drop one late

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:21 PM

I agree with Farhood's card completely.

Big exchange for Wilder. Both of these guys have beards.

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:22 PM

THAT onslaught was what I envisioned when I first commented on Wilder's length

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:22 PM

Seemed to be on verge of it then backed off. Probably tired himself out earlier.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:23 PM

This is an interesting fight between two really flawed fighters.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:23 PM

Wilder trying to take the round

Good battle

Do you find it hard to read Stiverne? I feel like he's playing possum (round 2 may have been the best example), but there are also times where he looks gassed/hurt.

I think that may explain some of Wilder's reticence.

jonzie04 01-17-2015 11:27 PM

damnit, forgot about this fight.

Stiverne is definitely a fireplug, but Wilder just looks to gas himself fast in any sustained flurry.

Can't tell if he's scared to open up or just plain lead-armed.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:30 PM

Even if you aren't throwing your jab to score, you need to use it to get inside.

TBH, I think Wilder's power has been overrated by the cans he's fought. He's not featherfisted, but he's definitely not Earnie Shavers either.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:31 PM

Big props to Stiverne's corner for telling him that he is way behind. Sadly, that almost never happens.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:32 PM

I didn't think the fight would go this long

It will probably go to decision

Agree, hes not nearly as powerful as his record would suggest. hes got a mean right cross though.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:33 PM

I figured Stiverne was holding back to unload on a tired wilder but it doesn't seem to be coming and we are in 10

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:34 PM

And now it's nearly a staring contest.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:34 PM

If Wilder holds on to this, he needs to work on body snatching with his straights.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:34 PM

Trying to go all Roy jones jr

This has been a far more entertaining fight than Klitschko-Pulev, even if that one did have four KDs in five rounds.

jonzie04 01-17-2015 11:35 PM

just caught the past two rounds, surely stiverne hasnt been this inactive the whole fight?

Yeah, I think Wilder is going 4 corners at this point, content with a decision, unless Stiverne make a big error.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:36 PM

I heard on the radio this week that nbc has signed a boxing deal to show like 11 matches this year or something

My numbers might be off

Hopefully he watched the HBO card with Herrera v. Benvenidez and Bradley-Chaves, b/c if he coasts he could get rat-****ed Herrera and Bradley did.

Aside from round six, he's fought like a guy content to cash a paycheck and afraid of taking real damage.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:40 PM

NEW YORK -- Boxing is returning to prime-time network television in a big way.

NBC Sports made official the news that has swirled around the sport for months, announcing Wednesday at a news conference in New York that it has entered into a multiyear agreement with Haymon Boxing, the company headed by powerful adviser and manager Al Haymon, and will televise the first 20 cards this year.

The series, titled "Premier Boxing Champions" -- "PBC on NBC" as executives are calling it -- will include five cards on NBC on Saturday nights, six on NBC on Saturday afternoons and the remaining nine in prime time on NBC Sports Network.

He has his length advantage locked down too well, if anything Stiverne leaves himself open in a blitz.

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:42 PM

Wilder might get knocked

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:43 PM

Controversial decision coming

Wilder gets sloppy when he tries to throw extended combos, which leaves him open to a good counterpuncher. With that said, I'm trying to understand how a guy becomes known as a counterpuncher if his only form of defense is eating jabs and not moving or slipping punches.

He looked more to me like a piston searching to inflict damage inside meeting a guy who owned him totally with his feet and armspan.

He got outboxed

TribalElder 01-17-2015 11:47 PM

Stiverne was holding back for the rematch check

Baby Lee 01-17-2015 11:48 PM

Even when he got sloppy his feet took him half a ring away.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-17-2015 11:48 PM

One of the judges gave Wilder a 10-8 round? Interesting. Right decision, a little wider than I thought.

Wilder's chin is better than I expected. Power worse. Straight punches look legitimate. Hooks and uppercuts are wild. Footwork is meh, but his reflexes are solid.

He needs at least two years of seasoning before fighting someone like Wlad, even though I despise that Ukrainian bastard.

damn lol. i wonder if his strategy was to wither the early storm and turn it on late and he just got beat up too bad early on? or maybe finish him in the laye rounds? not sure, didnt get to catch it. I know wilders gas tank and chin were both unknowns coming in.

He's fighting Jennings in late April, IIRC. That should be a walkover, though, as Jennings has very little amateur or pro experience.

Wilder took a lead and had the tank, feet, and stature to hold a lead. Neither had the tank to go on offense.

The way Stiverne held back I wonder if this fight was influenced to drive boxing popularity

/conspiracy

Stiverne stated he wasn't 100% out there. No telling what he meant by it or how sincerely.

Anyone else just watch the Pacquiao/Broner fight? Broner is classless trash, completely oblivious to his ass-beating.

When is the next Wilder fight ?

When does Joshua fight again? Can someone please PM me before it happens? I love that dude.

So why is Patrick Mahomes II boxing ? I think he should stick to football.

I think he may actually have mental issues. He seriously thought he won that fight. He is one of the most under achieving fighters I've ever watched. He has a shit ton of talent, but doesn't ever come close to fighting to his full potential. At times he looks tremendous, then he just takes rounds off. What a waste of talent.
