What would you consider to be a draft failure?

If we don't get one of the following players in the first round of this years draft I will consider it a failure...
A. Rolle
D. Johnson
D. Pollack
E. James
M. Williams
Personally I think thats alot of wiggle room.

Eleazar 01-26-2005 11:13 AM

Offense in the first round.

JimNasium 01-26-2005 11:25 AM

I think I'll go out on a limb and predict this draft as a failure already.

David. 01-26-2005 11:30 AM

if we get bad players. I'll consider it a failure.

jspchief 01-26-2005 11:31 AM

The name of the person we draft doesn't mean a damn thing to me. We could draft Rudy Ruetigger, and as long as he makes an impact on the field I'll consider it a success.

I'm sure I'll blow my top if we draft someone I don't like, but on the field actions make that all disappear. Jared Allen is the perfect example...I hated the pick at the time, and love it now that I've seen the guy play.

phisherman 01-26-2005 11:32 AM

considering that 3 of those guys are probably going to be top 5 picks, to you this draft will probably be a failure.

i'm just wondering if we'll actually pick a DE in the first...i'm thinking MLB or CB...

htismaqe 01-26-2005 11:35 AM

I think it's kinda silly to limit it to certain guys. You never know what going to happen.

For me, this draft won't be a success if we draft anything other than DE, LB, or CB in the first 2 rounds.

What if all those guys turn out to be busts?

Chiefnj 01-26-2005 11:37 AM

I'm hoping for Rolle, Johnson, Pollack or Edwards. I'd still be happy with Carlos Rogers or PacMan and a LB or DE in round 2.

CanadaKC 01-26-2005 11:44 AM

This is an easy question. For the Chiefs to keep surpassing a player with pure talent at his position...or a player that would fit perfectly with what we need. Darnell Dockett comes to mind from last year...he was taken in the third round...and could have easily played in KC...heck he wanted to play in KC. If we trade down again with a great player just sitting there....or draft another project or tweener...instant "F".

No matter what happens...this draft will be proclaimed a horrible draft.

CosmicPal 01-26-2005 11:57 AM

We all know Carl will draft a safety and convert him to DB; and he'll draft some QB and convert him to Punter; and he'll draft some TE and convert him to WR; and he'll draft some LB and convert him to DE; and hire some high school chicks from the mall and convert them to cheerleaders. Don't get your hopes up.

HolmeZz 01-26-2005 12:06 PM

Erasmus James is a waste of space. I'd rather have Dan Cody.

As for who I'd settle for in the 1st, I'd have no problem taking Pac Man, Carlos Rogers, or Marlin Jackson if need be.

Um, you can't convert a safety to DB. A safety is already a DB.

:D

Drafting another friggin safety. That would be an ENORMOUS failure and, I fear, our first round pick this year. :#

Atta boy! No that, my friends, is the ChiefsPlanet spirit :thumb:

I will consider the draft a failure if KC doesnt draft a TE or FB in the first round.

Would another H-back fulfill that requirement? We lack depth there, you know.

Actually, no. Wilson filled that role as backup, KC really needs a backup FB or TE.

Dockett wasn't a perfect fit for Vermeil. He was a 1st round talent with a 7th round brain, which is why he fell to the third. He had been arrested for theft and was known as a dirty player - going after knees, very late hits, etc.

Mr. Laz 01-26-2005 12:51 PM

my 1st choice group:

LB Derrick Johnson
WR Braylon Edwards (if a miracle happens, we'd have to take him)
CB Antrel Rolle

my 2nd group:

CB Carlos Rogers (not so sure he shouldn't be in group 1)
CB Marlin Jackson
CB Pac-Man Jones *

my 3rd group

DE Matt Roth (for parker :D )
DE Dan Cody
DE Marcus Spears
DE David Pollack
DE Erasmus James

I like the looks of that...

No way we draft a saftey! Didn't you hear....we got Eric Crouch?

Chiefnj 01-26-2005 01:40 PM

I'm also intrigued by Brandon Browner the 6'4" corner from Oregon. After watching the Chiefs repeatedly get torched on toss up balls in the end zone, a big corner with good hands seems appealing.

eazyb81 01-26-2005 01:45 PM

Drafting an offensive player in the 1st or 2nd round would be a draft failure to me. Barring injuries, or offense will be in the top 3 next year whether we add new players or not. We need a couple defensive playmakers to balance this team out, and I would hope that we would get a DE or a LB in the 1st round and a CB in the 2nd.

shaneo69 01-26-2005 01:52 PM

I don't care who we get, but I will consider the draft a failure if the first two picks aren't starting on defense by opening day.

HC_Chief 01-26-2005 01:56 PM

Drafting ANY player, no matter the position, then parking his ass on the bench.... THAT would be a draft-day failure IMO. If you draft a player, that means you intend to utilize him to win football games. You do NOT draft players to sit on the bench.... not in today's league. Pre-1993, sure... there was no cap, you could keep guys around for years while you taught them your system.

I am not opposed to taking a player on offense in the first or second round if that player is clearly a better choice than a defensive player. An example being Mark Clayton, WR, OU.... that guy would be awesome in this system.
