Anyone own a VW Jetta?

And if so, do you have to let it warm up for 20 minutes when it gets cold out before it allows you to put it in gear. And if so, is there any way to override this horrendous feature?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest trading it in on a real car if you can :p
The new mustangs are a good choice

No, but I dated a girl like that a long time ago.

My best friend has an '03 Jetta...now, what do you mean by 'cold'? I live in Arizona and I don't think he's ever had that problem or I woulda heard something. That seems sort of ridiculous to me so it's probably your car, but I don't live anywhere that's even close to what most people on this board think of 'cold'.

Ultra Peanut 01-28-2005 10:34 PM

Even DC thinks Jettas are gay.

I don't think so. I rented a Jetta about 2 years ago in Feb. and it had the same issue. My roommate works for Enterprise and he said people have complained about this "feature" with the Jetta's.

I have a 02 1.8T Jetta never had one problem with it of course I have never driven it in cold weather, as enddelt points out if it goes below 60 Im wearing a sweatshirt.what is this thing you call cold? My car is also an automatic with the tiptronic shifting. Are you talking about an automatic or Manual?

I love my car its a blast to drive. Its been my favorite car so far. I just turn on area 63 on the sirius radio and blast down the 101, its a great form of stress relief.

badgirl 01-28-2005 11:03 PM

I owned one back in the late 80's so it was probably a different engine and trannie then. :hmmm:

Phobia 01-28-2005 11:05 PM

When I was a kid, I had an 82 VW Rabbit. It was just the opposite. That SOB quit running every time the temp got over 95. The fuel pump was in the back, by the passenger side rear wheel.

bobbything 01-28-2005 11:32 PM

Automatic.

I own a VW Golf.... the hatchback version of the Jetta.

No clue where you live, but does it get to -30 overnight? My Jetta starts up just fine in the morning and I only need to let it warm up for 5 minutes or so, but that's just common sense for any car when it's really fucking cold out.

Maybe it's just the Jetta you own. Mine is just dandy.

Yeah, I was raised a pussy. I am most likely going to school out of state the next two years though. Hopefully that will make me a little different.

Say what? You were a trannie back then? What's that got to do with the car not shifting? :hmmm:

Hoover 01-29-2005 07:51 AM

I think Adam Sandler owned one and wrote a song about it.

My wife has a 95 VW Jetta ( Hate that damned thing/ She loves it).
However, she has no wait when it's cold as hell here.
She the typical woman that just gets in it and go no matter how long the car has been sitting in the cold.

Since it's paid for, sometimes I wish it did have the feature because I know she's probably going to end up throwing a rod in it.

Note: It may be the newer models.

SBK 01-29-2005 11:59 AM

My brother has an 03 1.8t, and he's never had to let it warm up or anything like that. The thing runs like a champ. It's a 5 speed though.

el borracho 01-29-2005 12:10 PM

My 95 Jetta GT (6 cylinder, 5 speed) is great! Over 160,000 miles and no problems. My friend, however, owns a newer model (2002?) and hates it.

What year is yours?
