Arn't you getting a little weak hearing about it in the Chicago media, I am! :deevee:

For skipping out on the season finale at Wrigley, the Cubs fined Sosa $87,500 - one day's pay.

This is why I find it very difficult to continue being a fan of professional sports.

despite our hapless chiefs, i still enjoy football...

but i'm apathetic at best about pro basketball and baseball...

Some Cardinals fans really wanted him this offeseason to play 2B, though he never seemed all that great to me.

Im really interested to see how much of Sosa's contract the Cubs had to eat in the trade. Hopefully its a lot:fire:

I'm not much of a basketball fan, although I'm happy to see the Bulls playing well for the first time since Jordan hung up his spurs.

I dont think it was that big of a deal. Especially considering what he has done for their team. About the same a Priest and the Nachos thing.

But yeah thats a shitload to get paid for just one day.

I'm talking about the money. That's $87k in one day. I used to make a couple G's in one day and felt like I was on top of the world. I can't imagine $87k.

What's to understand? A bunch of yuppie douchebags who flock to Wrigley just to go there, and feel good about themselves because they can afford the outrageous ticket prices, regardless of what kind of crap the Trib splatters on the field. I think midget badmitton could sell the place out.

Both of em are pretty much regional for the most part. If you have a competative team in your area or grew up watching one they are both still very enjoyable.

Well you think about it, and I know it doesn't "technically" work this way because NFL players get their signing bonuses up front, but really you look at a guy like Peyton Manning and technically if you take his cap number for this year, he makes around $500,000 a game...

They're not really paying it out, they're simply redistributing what you pay for tickets. If this country goes through another serious recession, guess who comes crashing back to earth first?

Very interesting perspective, do I detect some division hatred similar to what we might feel toward the Donkeys and Faiders? Being a Royals fan I have always looked at the Cubs as "who gives a fu#k" but I am literally surrounded by them here.

Why did the name change from Mental Ward to Lounge while I was in California or does that happen on a regular basis? Denver is a great town but thier Football team sucks.

I've really enjoyed the Bierre de Mar - a seasonal offering from New Belgium (makers of Fat Tire). I also decided I wasn't incredibly fond of TommyKnocker's wheat offereing. Finally, I decided I can't tell the difference from one Indian Pale Ale to another. I've been drinking Mojo IPA and it's good, but nothing distinctive.

Finally, I'm ashamed to admit that I like Blue Moon - a wheat beer secretively brewed by Coors.

Mostly by drinking a bunch of it and so did most of my friends. Kind of a plus going to undergrad in Texas is that Shiner is all over the place and its an entry into good beer. And for some reason i always have liked dark beer. The bitters, ale's and foreign beer were an acquired taste.

Wow, that is an excellent comparison to the magnitude of what it would be like. Had not thought about it like that, you are right though, Tribune does not need to bring in a winner to fill Wrigley. All they need to do is maintain interest. This sounds strangely like what some posters say about the Chiefs ownership. Surely no........they would not. STFU

I like their winter, but that's it. Something about their yeast leaves an unwanted aftertaste to me.... It's like an IPA aftertaste in every one of their brews. I can deal with it in an IPA - not in a supposed amber, though.
