Automobile help needed please.
I am buying a 1991 ford ranger tomorrow and it does not have air conditioning. Does anyone know how difficult or even possible to have it installed or if anyone can do it?
Any help would be appreciated. |
I'd just take your $10 down to Blockbuster and enjoy a few movies instead.

Just roll the windows down. It's free!!
Air conditioning? We don't need no stinkin air conditioning. |

91 Ford Ranger with no air?
It's worth about a grand and it would cost at least that to have air installed. I just think it's a poor investment, especially if air is important to you. |

Is it a four or six cyl? This is important as the Ford four that year will have a hard time handling the load at idle.

It is officially my soon to be toy. |

Put this in your back window

Like I didn't take it to a mechanic first. |
Spray bottle with a fan man, you can thank me later.

My apologies for my synical response. Sometimes I suck. If you're getting a great deal, I hope you're happy with it. I'm guessing it would cost a significant amount to put air into unless you know somebody who would wanna tinker with it. I don't know shit, though.

Sounds like you are gettin' a good deal on an older vehicle; sounds like it's in good shape.
Heck, you can probably get it installed for 700-900 bucks at the right place....but that puts a strain on a 4-banger. Unless you NEED air, I don't know if I'd make the investment. If you NEED the air, the 900 bucks is probably worth it to you--asuuming the vehicle will last at least 2-3 years, or more. Your call. |

I can live with that. |

As nice as this unit sounds a street rod set-up ( around $2500) might be worth it. They are small compressor, high efficiency units. |

I've had 4 cylinder "with Air" before....it's not cool (no pun intended.) :hmmm: |

In all seriousness good luck. :thumb: Doesn't sound like a bad deal considering the low mileage. |

Looks sharp, I'm gonna have fun with it. (obviously not too much since it doesn't have much power) |
FWIW, I've always been fond of Edmunds over KBB.

I had a 383 magnum with a 6 pack factory released and put into a Sport Fury that could eat any Chevy on the road at the time. |
It does have two wing nuts attaching the are cleaner though.

Cool, Mopar support! :thumb: |

And do you know why? :hmmm: |

or is it so the first wing nut doesn't get lonely? |
Yeah - I'd definitely say duals.

You are correct, all Hemis came with dual fours. It is good to jostle with you and hope you get to do your Chevelle project. I kind of like the first generation Chevelles myself. My first new car was a 72 Chevelle. Like you said, as long as they aint buring rice they are cool. :) |

I don't know yet. Looks nice, runs nice, so I think I'm gonna get it. |

Everybody needs some type of toy. |
Just out of curiosity, what kinda 4 popper does it have in it?
|
It can be done for 1K to 1400 and as Phobia stated, that's about what it's worth unless there is something extra special about it. If it is not your full time driver, I would use the 80 model air conditioning. Open the windows and drive 80 miles per hour. :)

This is kinda like building a 3 story house then when everything is up and in place deciding it needs an elevator isn't it?
I think the "open a window" suggestion fits best. |

I know what’cha mean, “bolt in kits” never are. There’s always a little custom fabrication involved. I’d bet the main problem J Diddy’s gonna run into will be leaks, and since he’ll have to take it to a certified air conditioning shop to have it charged it’ll be one of those fix one leak find another kinda things. At least that’s been the main problem with the few air conditioner conversions I’ve witnessed. Something to keep in mind J Diddy, I think you can have the air conditioner guy put some dye in when he charges the system, this’ll help track down those leaks. |

Although there’s been some friendly smack thrown back and forth between Bwana, PastorMike and myself over there dirty ricers ;) , I have no brand loyalty. I’ll go with whatever works. |

Back before the Truck World BB got all screwed up, there was a guy selling those “Intake Tornado” thing-a-muh-jigs and the ricer kiddies were buy’n them left and right talk’n about how much faster it made there rigs. When the master mechanics showed up asking questions about how it’s supposed to work, the seller started talking in circles before leaving the board with a comment like, “well, I guess some people just don’t want to believe.” |

Funny Story! My Friend owns one of the shops that sells all of that junk and those rubber band tires with the Dubs. He drives a Viper in the summer. One of those guys pulled up in his "Civic" in front of store and said in all seriousness: My Civic will outrun that thing! The Civic driver had no idea what the Viper even was. |
