Anyone catch start of Whitlock radio today?

What is he talking about? Is he quitting?

cookster50 03-01-2005 02:26 PM

Yep, tomorrow is his last day.

Brock 03-01-2005 02:27 PM

He is trying to weasel back into 810.

redfan 03-01-2005 02:29 PM

So the 610/KCStar tag-team assault on the rest of KC sports radio ain't workin'?
Mr. Burns: Ehhhhhcellent.

vckcchiefs04 03-01-2005 02:31 PM

:shake: wow....what a shock. 610 has second rate talent.... that's why they will always be a second rate station.

htismaqe 03-01-2005 02:31 PM

He's trying to go back to 810?

What an idiot. He's quitting on the day of his big rally...

All I can get is that Whitlock just quit on the air. I wonder if that means Bill Maas will start showing up again.

That's stupid. I flip around on my drive home from work and 810 has Kietzman always talking about either NASCAR, the Royals, or Kstate. He hardly ever talks about KU or the Chiefs. Or at least that's the way it is when I'm on my drive home after 4:30. At least Whitlock does talk about the things I give a shit about. Plus, they've recently had guests like Mark Collins and Tracy Simien.

I will give you this, though: The morning guy sucks ass.

What an a$$Clown. I'd be very interested in what he had to say.

keg in kc 03-01-2005 02:49 PM

I constantly switch back and forth between stations; whoever has the most interesting guest at the time gets my ear.

This is really fucked up timing, whatever happened. I wonder if we'll get some kind of exposé in the star. I wonder if this'll end 610's monopoly on star talent, or if that's a contractual thing.

Bowser 03-01-2005 02:51 PM

Doug Franz is playing the "I don't know what happened" card.

dirk digler 03-01-2005 02:51 PM

Even though I don't like Whitlock personally but his show was so much better that KK. The last ratings book his show and KK's show was tied and 610 was making strong headway against 810. From what I understand Maas is gone as well or has been for the last couple of months.

vckcchiefs04 03-01-2005 02:51 PM

At least Whitlock does. And they've recently had guests like Mark Collins and Tracy Simien.

And? I like both of those guys.... but knowing they are on the radio will never get me to the radio..... Collins is about as entertaining as Grunny.... he's not. 810 has it's bad ones also though, that damn NASCAR crap has to go. Way to much time spent on the turn left sport.

I didn't hear it, but I'd guess that this is one of Whitless' publicity stunts. It's too much of a coincidence that his last day will be the day of the rally. He's up to something. We couldn't be so lucky as to get his dumbass out of this town.

You know, I used to hate Whitlock. Hated his articles in the Star, and his whole act. Thought basically, he was picking on the Chiefs and being overly critical. But, I've got to tell you, at least he talks about the Chiefs! I think he legitimately cares about this team and wants to see improvements and success. What's so terrible about that? ...and, he's frequently correct...how did our D finish last season?

I can bearly pickup 610 here near Omaha, but in the afternoon drive I switch from 810 to 610 cause Keitzman is talking NASCAR or bar-b-queing, or K-State basketball or something pointless.

Whitlock, or Mark Collins, etc. are talking about the Chiefs...even if it's annoying and ranting sometimes.

vckcchiefs04 03-01-2005 03:13 PM

Ok..... but's he's also the braniac who predicted a 16-0 season for the Chiefs in the past. He's just another sports reporter..... there is nothing special about him or any other one we have in KC, period.

BigRedChief 03-01-2005 03:14 PM

Whitlock's show is the second most popular radio show with the over 25 market in the latest Arbitron book according to flannagan's column.

Could be a publicity stunt.

This thread was over 1000 when I saw it at 1 hour and 13 mintues into his show.

KC Kings 03-01-2005 03:15 PM

Where is the little BS smiley when you need him?
If anything, he will cease to be an employee temporarily during the rally, then be rehired immediately thereafter, to "Protect the station" and make the rally look more important than it really is.

I will be there tomorrow, but I King Carl isn't going to hear about the rally, and finally realize that Chiefs fans don't care about the money and just want a winning team.

There's a homer point of view. Whitlock can be a dipshit and he'll be the first to admit to it. But he puts out at least as many articles with a valid perspective as he does inflamatory/controversial articles. He's also a decent guy in person.

The Bad Guy 03-01-2005 03:18 PM

As a journalist, I respect the hell out of Whitlock. He's talented, speaks his mind in a market where the Chiefs ass-kissing dominates, and he's very good at self promotion.

Whitlock is arrogant, and I think that's where the hatred for some comes from, but he's very good at what he does.

That's it in a nutshell. Whether you like him or what he says, he's done a tremendous job at selling himself. He's a columnist, and his job is to get people to talk about what he has to say. He does exactly that. If you hate him, you talk about him. If you agree with him, you talk about him. He's gotten his name out there, even to the beginnings of national recognition with ESPN. He's had to work hard and network well to get where he is. Hell, I'm jealous in a lot of ways. I wish I had the kind of connections it takes to get as far as he has.

Although that probably won't come until I develop some work ethic. But anyway. He's made himself a topic of conversation. And that's his job.

Homer my ass! Thee is a way to criticize and not piss off everyone at the same time. He may be a decent guy in person but my opinion is he is a terrible analyst. Just because he played at Ball State doesn't make him the all-knowing of the game.

I am convinced that he is like a lot of the athletes, he is in it solely for himself. I do not think he gives a rats ass about the Chiefs other than an opportunity to make a name for himself and get a big time job. Seeing him on the "Sports Reporters" made me want to puke because the whole thing was made to come off like he was some kind of annointed expert on the Chiefs. I have corosponded with this jerk about my disagreements and he said that he is sorry that I feel that way. I guess I should feel lucky that he answered me and not ever wash my eyes that I read it with. ROFL

I think the Chiefs can spend a little cash to bring them where they are. This is not the first time they have done this. If they don't sign anyone tomorrow it's not because they are not here. I believe the Chiefs are not the only ones that will be in Atlanta, are you saying no team can sign anyone tomorrow just because they will be in Atlanta? :hmmm:

I listen to Whitlock because he actually talks about the Chiefs.

KK talks about gold and NASCAR and K-State...I can't stand it.

As for making predictions, Whitlock is no different than us. He's about as equally informed in most cases, and he's right about as much as he's wrong.
