Is Jeremiah Trotter just another Shawn Barber?

or do you think he'll actually do something for us on the field? :(

Thig Lyfe 03-02-2005 03:34 PM

it all depends on whether Carl signs him or not...

KCChiefsMan 03-02-2005 03:34 PM

the way they played together in Philly, Trotter may be the best option for us, I'm sure Trotter and Barber would work well together in KC just like they did in Philly!

What about the talk last season of ditching Holliday, Barber and Morton? Is Barber still in our plans for next season?

LMAO...I gotta give that an rep.

tyton75 03-02-2005 03:48 PM

I would say he's better, but even if he isn't.. he'll be a damn good leader for the defense I think.. they need someone on that side of the ball with some intensity

They never played together.

I guess they were basically traded for each other in 2002.

No, Trotter is another Bret Perriman.

What? When?

Mr. Kotter 03-02-2005 04:17 PM

Trotter and Barber did play together (before Barber came to KC) in Philly...IIRC.

I view Trotter as a more passionate leader, a better run-stopper, and a more sure tackler than Barber. Barber is faster, probably better in coverage....but Trotter would immediately be our best LB since Edwards, IMO.

Dave Lane 03-02-2005 04:18 PM

A upgrade but if he gets a big contract I'd worry.

Dave

You don't remember correctly.

Barber was in Washinton when Trotter was in Philli.

And the two are in no way similar...

Saying he'd be our best backer since Edwards is like saying Samari Rolle would be our best corner since Ray Crockett. Jesus, I hope for more than that.

I stand corrected; Barber played for Philly in 2002, the same year Trotter went to Washington.

I understand that Barber is a OLB, and Trotter a MLB...but both are LBs. Barber has more range and speed. Trotter is tougher against the run, and tackles with the best of them. That's all I was sayin'....

No. If you mention this again, you will be banned.

Miles 03-02-2005 04:29 PM

Trotter is a shitload better than Barber was when we got him. Barber was never really a key in Phillys D and never performed at the all-pro level than Trotter has in the past. He was just a guy that Philly plugged in for a season after Trotter left. He best year probably wasnt even as good as Trotters worst with Wash.

Assuming he manages to get healthy, yeah. We paid a good amount of money for him and he was known as a "ballhawking" LB when he came. I think Barber could still do some good for us. He's done well before. He just seems to have gotten engulfed in the whole crappiness that is the Chiefs defense.

The big question is will he be able to regain his health?

That's a freakin joke. In his 2nd season in the league Barber had 101 tackles and returned an INT 70 yards for a TD. He got injured in 2000 and then blew out his knee in 2001. He had 92 tackles and returned an INT 80 yards for a TD in Philly in 2002.

He was regarded by most as one of the top 2 or 3 linebackers available when the Chiefs signed him. He managed 112 tackles in GREG ROBINSON'S defense.

Once again, the "what have you done for me lately" mentality causes people to repaint history.

And this was accomplished while wearing a cast for half the season.
