In their prime who was the better Middle Linebacker for the Chiefs ?
OK, I need your help in settling a disagreement with a fellow member.
He claims Anthony Davis was a beter LB for the Chiefs than Marvcus Patton. Need your opinons. Poll coming. |
Quote:
Most definitly DAVIS! Davis was awesome at MLB. Patton was good but at the end of his career when we got him. And I am not sure he ever played with the intensity Davis had. |
Definitly Anthony Davis. We got Patton on the downside of his career.
|
Davis was much much better.
|
Davis was better as a Chief.
Patton (still good) had past his prime in his time here. |
Patton had one good year here.
Davis had several. End of story. |
Davis was good but he had alot of talent around him to make him better, Patton was older at the time but he was a true leader of a defense when the defense didnt have players like Smith, Thomas, Simien, Edwards, and Carter.
|
Mike Maslowski owns them all.
|

I disagree. Davis played with much more intensity than Patton. Don;t ge tme wrong I liek Patton he was good for our team. But I think toe-toe Davis was more intense and harder hitting. |

Follow up poll....Who was better? Neil Smith or Eric Hicks?
|
Marcus Patton.
Anthony Davis never made it to his "prime". |

Are we talking Smith as a Charger???
|
I can't believe there is more than one vote for Patton.

Can't find a stat sheet anywhere on the 'net. Edit: 8.5! http://www.superbowl.com/history/stats/teams/DEN/1997 The verdict is in! |

I sit corrected............ :deevee: |
Davis was a hot item when he came out of college, but fizzeled and left KC after losing his MLB position to only back up in Balt.
Patton had a more productive career than Davis. Patton can on at the tail end of his career and produce davis like #'s with less talent around him. Overall, this is a no brainer, Patton hands down for longivity and ability with the talent around each player during there time. |

There's no question Davis had a better career as a Chief. If you did the research you would see that Patton played on some really lousy defenses in his NFL career. At best the defenses he played on were average. |
Davis was best after he left the Packers...
|
Davis never played MLB, he played outside linebacker. Simien or Donnie Edwards played the middle. But Anthony Davis was better than Patton.

I guess that makes this whole thread POINTLESS. |

Again, just a difference in opinons ! Patton never lost his MLB position until many years of service in the NFL. Can't say that about Davis. It was because of the talent around him that made him better. Patton was solid no matter what talent was around him. |

http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/...rs31073099.asp Bargain basement: Packers sign Davis for minimum By Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel staff Last Updated: July 30, 1999 Green Bay -- The Green Bay Packers could have brought back Wayne Simmons, and former special-teams ace Lamont Hollinquest became available as well. But neither Simmons nor Hollinquest was a consideration when the Packers' determined bid to acquire linebacker Anthony Davis ended with his signature on a bargain-basement contract Thursday. ... Shortly after he signed, the coaching staff asked Davis what position he wanted to play. Although Davis had spent almost his entire career on the weak side, he told the Packers that middle linebacker was his preference. ... "I've watched this system," said Davis, who hasn't played middle linebacker since playing there two years at Utah after he transferred from a junior college. "The middle linebacker is the guy that makes a lot of plays. Donnie (Edwards) made a lot of plays in Kansas City, and that's the way it is in Miami and Tampa Bay." |

Bout time you realized this, tard ! When you wanted royr17 to post this, you told him Davis played MLB. Looks like you lost...... Davis never played MLB. And yet, how many voted for Davis on a fraud poll ? :shake: |

Wow, looks like both the Roys are sitting around and trying to find ways to trick GoChiefs online.
A sense of sadness sweeps over me... |

I told no one he played middle linebacker....I thought he did but clearly he did not. Seems most people here thought he did. At least I did some research. |

Looks like the thread title and question for the poll was as flawed as the votes . :D

YOU LOSE. |

It would appear to me you lost since Davis wasn't a MLB. Did you not mention to roy that Davis was a better MLB than Patton on some IM chat ? |

I don't know who is the worst, you egging him on or him actually paying attention to you ? |

Roy asked for my opinion, so I gave it. Then he called me a moron and asked me to post this poll. I said I didn't give a shit, and if he wanted to, he could do it. So he did. |
Sure would be nice if there were some accurate stats from both players because the answer lies within.
I would be shocked if Patton's numbers wasnt double Davis's |
Quote:
Patton was nothing special here for the most part, though. He was basically a black Mike Maslowski (although at least Maz had the season where he recorded 160 tackles. Patton broke 100 tackles just once in his career and never as a Chief). |

Marvcus Patton Anthony Davis Although it's apples and oranges. MLBs are always going to get more tackles. |
Quote:
Look, Patton was a good solid player through his whole career, but Davis never quite reached that same plateau. Thats why the stats would sway this whole discussion. |

We're only talking about their careers as Chiefs here, as well. At least that was the way it was put to me. |

I can't believe Scanlon hasn't been mentioned in the thread yet.:)

I was just trying to reason with you on why Patton could still be better than Davis while never playing on a great defense. |

During Pattons years here, he averaged 105.50 tackles per year.
Davis years here , he averaged 58.40 tackles. OK, gochiefs........ spin it about Davis being a better LB than Patton. Which one had a nose for the ball ? Do you want to break it down to solo tackles ? |
