Chiefs' free-agent status....The Kansas City Star

Really nothing new...

Chiefs' free-agent checklist

The Kansas City Star

The status of the players the Chiefs are looking at this week:

• Samari Rolle, cornerback

Visited Wednesday; will wrap things up at Arrowhead today

• Jeremiah Trotter, linebacker

Visiting today; Chiefs want to make sure he can pass his physical

• Ed Hartwell, linebacker

Visiting today; 16 teams have inquired about his interest, according to agent

• Patrick Surtain, cornerback

Chiefs would like to bring him in, but Dolphins want more trade details worked out; they want second-round draft pick, which doesn't sit well with KC

Ho Hum.....nothing to see here. And not a word about the purple limo stopped at Diamond Joes?

bricks 03-03-2005 09:23 AM

I don't understand, why the fuck Carl wouldn't give up a 2nd rounder for surtain? The guy is worth it! Now, it's understandable why Carl really sucks!

KCFalcon59 03-03-2005 09:25 AM

Without a 3rd round pick, giving up a 2nd for Surtain is too steep. IMO. Now if it was next years 2nd, I would jump on it.

Torn between two lovers...I want both!

And why the fuck not?! That makes no sense - "we want to keep our #2 pick because we're targeting some untested, unproven collegiate player" instead of nabbing a guaranteed stud CB?! If true, that's just frigging retarted[CP spelling].

'Cause we don't have a third round pick in the draft. If everything passes with Surtain, he'll consider it, but if you look at the fact that we make this trade- come draft day- we'll only have a first rounder.

A DB these days is only as good as his front seven....

I would go for that :thumb: and maybe even add late round this year.

The reason we don't want to part with a #2 is because we don't have a #3 and they don't want to be left with just 1 first day pick. As I understand it, we're trying to get them to take a 2006 pick (or picks).

No shit

If we don't win this year, this team is getting overhauled. It's now or never............

C-Mac 03-03-2005 09:28 AM

At least Rolle and Hartwell are still in town....

Coach 03-03-2005 09:31 AM

I noticed they said pass a physical with Trotter, I wonder if that means they have the contract all worked out and are just waiting on the results of the physical to come back?

Another question is why spend a pick in addition to huge money when other stud CBs are on the free agent market without the cost of a draft pick.

And virtually everyone I've heard interviewed the last two days has said that Rolle is our priority, not Surtain. Surtain may be the fallback.

I'm selfish, I want both :)

I agree. Rolle is probably the better fit for the team, and more logical.

Dolphins | Surtain to Stay? - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 3 Mar 2005 07:36:24 -0800

The Sun-Sentinel reports the Miami Dolphins may keep CB Patrick Surtain if a trade cannot be worked out. It is believed the Dolphins may be interested in extending Surtain's contract, but both sides – the team and his agent, Gary Uberstine – have different opinions about his value. Uberstine said the way the free-agent market unfolds will likely determine Surtain's fate and that the Dolphins were interested in trading Surtain for draft picks.

Interesting, it didn't say who the team they wanted the picks, but most likely it's KC.

There's two scenarios possible, and one is the Dolphins keeping him. However, they might be extending his contract so that he can be traded. :hmmm:
