What's the best way to peel a hard boiled egg?

I've been cracking both ends and blowing into either end. It separates the egg from the shell....sometimes. Do you peel them hot, warm or cold? Help me out here, people.

chop 07-08-2005 08:37 PM

I peel them hot. I run water in the sink so I can stop my fingers from burning.

Supposedly if you submerge them in ice cold water right after they are done it both shrinks the egg making it easier to peel, and somehow makes the sulfur smell go away... heard it on good eats or some show like that.

If you have the time, and the forthought, take a bowl, fill it with cold water, and then add some ice about 20 minutes before your eggs are done boiling. Submerge the eggs into the ice water as soon as they come out of the pan.

Cold, lightly breaking the shell all over until it is fragmented. Then I peel away the end with the air gap and the skin of the egg will usually just peel away with all the shell fragments attached. I still hate peeling hard boiled eggs though.

Iowanian 07-08-2005 09:46 PM

The Easiest way is to do the following:

"Hey woman!"
"yes dear"
"Boil and peel me a half dozen eggs"
"Ok, shall I bring them to the manroom with a cold beer so you don't have to miss a play"
"that would be fabulous.dont' forget the salt and pepper...Proooceeeeeed..I may even allow you to pleasure me later in gratitude for doing such a fine job"

According to the Lillyputians you crack them on the small end, where the air pocket is, as Vlad has stated.

First of all, I'm so sorry I know this is an old discussion but the topic is very important I am appealing to the admin. Please approve my post, Thanks The best way to peel a hard-boiled egg is to start with eggs that are a few days old. After boiling, transfer them to an ice water bath to cool completely. Gently tap the egg on a hard surface to crack the shell all over, then roll it to loosen the shell. Peel under running water to help remove any small bits of shell. And What's your favorite method for making hard-boiled eggs easier to peel? Have you tried adding baking soda to the boiling water, or do you have another trick that works every time? I would be very happy if you could let me know, thanks because the same problem I will face then I will create a trick like this.

You put the hard boiled egg inside your asshole and then shoot it out, it rips off the shell off!

Before boiling, tap the fat end of each egg on the counter. Lightly, just enough to barely crack the shell. If you did it correctly, you won't really see the crack, you'll just hear it when you tap the egg.

Boil per normal. At this point you can roll the egg and peel it; no ice bath required. The ice bath does make it a bit easier though.

A hack for rolling the egg is to simply dump the water out of the pot, put eggs back in, put lid on pot and swirl/shake eggs for 30 seconds.

A hack for removing the shell is to peel off the part around the fat end, then hold the egg like an ice cream cone and gently squeeze; egg should squeeze out of the shell.

Hope that helps.

This.

The only time I had a problem with peeling an egg was always at Thanksgiving. It drove me crazy. I found out that it was because the eggs were to fresh.

Rain Man 06-06-2024 05:29 PM

The best way to eat a hard-boiled egg is purchase a civet egg. The civet is a small jungle animal that eats eggs whole. You feed a civet a hard-boiled egg, which passes through the digestive tract unopened but absorbing unique civet digestive juices. Upon being expelled at the other end two days later, the creature's anus cracks open the egg, which is then served with juice and toast.

Similar to Megatron

[QUOTE]Yes, tapping an egg with a spoon before boiling it can make it easier to peel:
1. Tap the larger end
Use the spoon to lightly tap the larger, round end of the egg where the air cell is located, but avoid tapping the skinnier end.
2. Listen for a snap (pop)
You should hear a hollow sound when the membrane separates from the shell. It usually takes a few taps.
