Hurricane Wilma?

Here we go again, perhaps. Of course, every time I say "Hurricane Wilma!" in my head, it sounds like Fred Flintstone.

Anyway, here's the latest track:

Dr. Johnny Fever 10-17-2005 03:31 PM

I'm glad to live in the midwest.

so many hurricanes this year they have to start with Roman(alpha,Beta etc) next.

Coach 10-17-2005 03:32 PM

Not to mention that it also tied the record of hurricanes in a single year (21) which was previously set in 1933.

Not hurricanes, just named storms.

What's the deal? Is this going to hit Miami? Is there a chance we get the game moved to Arrowhead?

Nope. Just named storms. If Wilma! reaches hurricane strength, she'll be the 12th hurricane of the season.

Yeah, just storms in general, since 1933 season didn't have any naming system. My bad.

If the projection holds we could end up playing Miami Mon. nite & that might mean more Sterling Sharpe.

I just the forecast for Miami on Sun. Thunderstorms & Wind. IMO if the passing games for both are negated it could favor KC.

Actually on the Dolphins web site (I went there check see if anything is being said about moving the game time/location) said Gus Johnson & Steve Tasker are doing the game. Sterling may be an upgrade.

cmh6476 10-18-2005 11:37 AM

Is there a chance this game will be moved?

I think windy, wet conditions would probably favor the Chiefs. Our running attack is potent, and our O-Line should be able to open holes for our running game. Especially if Taylor can't go.

On the flip side, I think the Dolphin's strength is the running attack. However, the Chiefs are much improved against the run, while our pass D is more suspect.

I think a pound the ball running matchup definitely favors the Chiefs...

If Taylor can't go, Matt Roth will play on obvious running downs. I think I'd rather face Taylor...

Roaf will handle any of them. The statement made was that we should be able to run against them, especially if Taylor CAN'T go.

My refutation was that we may actually be able to run better WITH Taylor, as Roth is bigger, stronger, and meaner than Taylor.

gblowfish 10-18-2005 04:39 PM

This storm could roll across south Florida on Saturday and keep raining until Sunday night. This could screw up the Chiefs game potentially. One of the guys I work with has tickets to the game, and is flying out Thursday AM. If the keys are evacuated, he could be screwed. No hotels, no rental cars. He's worried his vacation will be ruined. Poor guy...

Latest track. When is the game?

Hammock Parties 10-18-2005 04:44 PM

From the reports I've seen, this hurricane will be well out into the atlantic by Sunday gametime.

However, if it isn't, and they have to move the game up to Friday or Saturday, all us NFL Sunday Ticket users are going to get SCREWED.

Thanks. From the track, it would seem that the weather weenies are predicting that she's going to vastly increase her momentum. I don't remember the last time I saw a hurricane travel the distance they are showing on the latest track so quickly. It looks like she'll be moving at close to 40 mph.

I doubt that she'll make it beyond a weak Category 3, but throw in that forward movement, and that's some strong wind.

FloridaMan88 10-18-2005 07:38 PM

Latest track looks similar to the track Hurricane Charlie, which had no impact on the Miami area, except for some minor rain.

RINGLEADER 10-18-2005 08:08 PM

It will probably be rainy but nothing else. If it's worse then we'll probably see the game moved to Monday night.

Isn't the weakness of the Dolphins their secondary? This could be the great equalizer for them - not that our passing attack has been much to write home about (unless you count screens :) )

tk13 10-19-2005 03:14 AM

It's now a Cateogry 5 hurricane with 175 mph winds, central pressure is down to 892 mb. It's the strongest hurricane in the Gulf/Atlantic this season, if you can believe that. Katrina and Rita were never this strong. I believe that 892 is the 2nd strongest hurricane pressure ever in the Atlantic... it's up there anyway. Amazing how this will probably just be looked at as "Oh, another Cat 5."

tk13 10-19-2005 04:03 AM

This thing has exploded. It was 110 mph last night. It's now still at 175 mph winds. According to the Weather Channel, the pressure has now dropped to an incredible 884 mb. This is now the most intense hurricane in recorded history in the Atlantic.

Abba-Dabba 10-19-2005 04:29 AM

My buddy may not be happy but I sure as hell am that I canceled my trip to Miami this weekend.

He fuggin hates Miami now that he lives there. He say it takes atleast 2hrs drive anywhere, english is a 2nd language and housing prices are terrible. Says 500,000 for a 2br/1ba home is the norm. But, they do have those neat little 25K dollhouses in the frontyards.

I told him before he moved that visiting is fantastic, living there is horrible. Did he listen? Nope. Now he wants to move back after 2yrs there. Whattapuss.

Mecca 10-19-2005 04:35 AM

Atleast Miami has hot chicks in little bikinis on the beach. I think I could handle living there, being a single guy and all.

If you could find a decent apt, in a decent neighborhood to live in under $1500/mos. Yeah, it'd be grand.

Then again, knowing those hot babes wouldn't have a thing to do with po dunks like ourselves because we don't drive Bentley or Rolls may have us pullin a Delt and stabbin fat chicks instead.

Yep. If you compare the previous track, they've not got her moving as fast as before. Then again, I thought that 40+ mph was pretty speedy to begin with.

I think what he may mean was that when Miami's season opener w/Tenn. was played on Sat. last year due to a hurricane, it was not televised in Tenn.

If they don't let us DirecTV customers see it, whenever it is played, live, I am going to be pissed at Skip and blame him.

There are several Eastern stadiums available on Sunday that can be used. It looks pretty obvious to me there will be no game in Miami on Sunday. Why don't they move the game to an open stadium. Pick one closest to Miami so Miami has "home field" advantage and then they can play and televise it on DirecTV on Sunday. Huh, why don't they, huh, huh?

Skyy God 10-19-2005 05:26 PM

I heard Mitch Holtus on the radio about an half hour ago.... he said they're considering moving the game to either Atlanta or Jacksonville. Both have byes this week. Or they may move the game to as early as Friday or as late as Tuesday. But the 'cane is supposted to hit close to gametime. Decision as early as tomorrow morning.

We can thank the league office for giving the Saints a "home" game in week 2... the backlash has all but ensured that the game won't be moved to KC.

I can't see the logic in scheduling the game to be in Miami on Tuesday. This hurricane is a potential disaster in the making. Why would they expect they could play on Tueday? Move it to another area and play the game on Sunday so I can watch it on DirecTV. It's all about me.

Hammock Parties 10-19-2005 06:08 PM

Sounds like KC could definitely catch a break if the game is moved. Somehow I don't think it would be quite like a regular road game.

I can't see them moving it to Jacksonville, since that will likely interferre with evacuation routes/plans. I'm thinking (read hoping) Atlanta! Won't take many of us to be LOUD in Atlanta!

I would love for the game to be here in Jacksonville so I could go see it, but it would definitely be a road game for KC if the game was played here. Most of the "Jaguar" fans in Jacksonville are closet Dolphin fans anyway.

Actually I have looked into it and I think we probably would.

The only reason the Titans/Dolphins game last year was not shown on DirecTV was because it aired before the contract actually started that year.
