Don't we control our own destiny for final wildcard spot?

not the jags ... but cincy

wildcard
Jaguars 7-3
Bengals 7-3
Chiefs 6-4 (<--- buffalo loss just killed us)
Chargers 6-4

we play cincy at arrowhead (head-to-head is the first non-divisonal Wildcard tiebreaker)

cincy also has a harder schedule than the Jags

Cincy
Ravens
at Steelers (go steelers!!!)
Browns
at Lions
Bills
at Chiefs (go chiefs!!!!)

Chargers

at Redskins
Raiders
Dolphins
at Colts (go colts!!)
at Chiefs (go chiefs!!)
Broncos (go donks? :Lin: )

jiveturkey 11-21-2005 10:52 AM

The Jags are in the drivers seat IMO. Do they play anyone?

morphius 11-21-2005 10:56 AM

Yup, if we win out we go, if we stumble then Cinci has to lose a game. Its not going to be pretty.

DaFace 11-21-2005 10:58 AM

We're going to have to have one hell of a hot streak to make it. Technically, though, you're right. Our fate is in our hands.

the jags play the colts, but that's it .... but there's 2 wildcard spots.

at Cardinals
at Browns
Colts
49ers
at Texans
Titans

The absolute worse thing that could happen is have a good record and still not make the playoffs. Let's hope the Chiefs get on a roll. That said, 4 out of the 6 games are at home. That bodes well for us, IMO.

We have to win all 4 games at home AND win 1 of the road games to have a chance, IMO.

10-6 will not get us in.

Unless one of the others fall on their faces.

Which is okay with me. If we don't finish 11-5 or 12-4 we should sit home. A first round trip to Indy or Denver would not be something I'd look forward to.

I didn't say we only had to win 4 games to make it. I said having 4 games at HOME bodes well for us.

Dartgod 11-21-2005 11:23 AM

After last week, I didn't want this team anywhere near the playoffs. But if we did win out*, we would certainly deserve to be there. That's a hella tough closing schedule.

*Not saying I expect us too, just saying "what if?"...

I know what you said and I fail to see how it bodes well for us.

We need 5 wins and have only 4 games at home. That's bad news if you asked me...

keg in kc 11-21-2005 11:32 AM

Our destiny is in our hands any way you look at it. Win out at home, split the road games, and we will be in the playoffs. Possibly as division-winner, because it's feasible that this time next week we're talking about an upcoming home game that can even us up with Denver. And they've still got to play San Diego on the road. The Chargers still have to play Washington, Indy and us on the road.

It could be there for the taking, the question is whether we're strong enough to pull it off.

So you think having 4 of the 6 games ON THE ROAD would be more of an advantage?

It's real simple... I'm glad that we have 4 of the 6 games at HOME, that is an advantage, IMO. We have a better shot art winning at home. Also, let's keep in mind not every team in the hunt for a wildcard spot is going to win out. Some teams will stumble.

Exactly and we have been saving Kendrell Bell and Kris Wilson for this run!

Cormac 11-21-2005 11:37 AM

Our record is probably better than our form, IMO. We haven't really beaten anybody, and have lost badly to some teams. Without Roaf, Sims and Holmes we're up against it. We showed some potential last night, but Houston were like a Division II school. On balance, I think we might win 3 games. I hope firstly that I'm wrong, and secondly that we beat the Broncos.

No, I did not say that.

But it does not bode well. It's better than have 4 of 6 on the road, but better than bad does not equal good.

Yes, a couple of teams might stumble.

I just don't see anyone in the AFC getting in with 6 losses.

Kind of silly to bitch about Bell when the linebackers beside him lead the team in tackles. There's only so many to go around. He's part of what's far and away the best linebacker unit I've seen in the eight years I've been here, and that includes a couple of seasons with both DT and Donnie "overrated" Edward$ on the field together.

Unless you'd be more comfortable with Kris Griffin starting.

Or, hey, I don't think Glen Cadrez or Lew Bush are doing anything right now.

ChiTown 11-21-2005 11:54 AM

The loss to Buffalo was bad, but the loss to Philly is going to haunt us. To be all over their asses like we were and then choke it away........well, that could be the game that does us in.

Excuse me for trying to be funny,
Actually I am not bitching about either one of them, I am 100% behind both of them if you read my posts in other threads. I really do believe they will both be solid contributors. I think when Sims gets back and provides some push up the middle they can utilize Bells skills to a greater extent. No, you will not see me do too much bitching about this team other than the special teams.

BigRedChief 11-21-2005 12:06 PM

I still see us at 10-6 as I did in the pre-season.
We will win all of our home games and lose all of our road games.

And 10-6 may not get you into the playoffs

Red Dawg 11-21-2005 12:06 PM

Of course we control it. Win them all and we'll get the the spot.

dsgreene285 11-21-2005 12:15 PM

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Cincy lose their next two ballgames. You can throw records out the window in divisional games this late in the season. If that happens, I think it all comes down to the last game of the year.

jspchief 11-21-2005 12:19 PM

The sad thing is, the main catalyst for all of these "how we can make the play-offs" scenarios is the assumption that we will win a bunch of games at home.

So say we do win all these home games, and make the play-offs. We're just going to have to go on the road in round 1 anyway, and we've yet to beat a good team on the road.

I guess if we can win 5 of the next 6, I'll start believing this team is better than what they've shown so far. But in the end I think it ends in disappointment anyway.

I don't think it matters I don't see us beating both the Chargers and the Broncos, New England will be a nail biter, likely we will lose to Dallas and the Giants are not going to be easy. I would say 8-8 is just as likely as 10-6. 9-7 unfortunately is what we will actually do.

Calcountry 11-21-2005 12:54 PM

If we win out, we are 12-4, so how do we not control our own destiny? Do I think we will win out?, by no means, but this could be said of any team in the wild card hunt at this time. Heck, even the Raiders could win out and go 10-6 right now. They probably will win 5 of the six.

we until cincy lost to the colt yesterday were weren't in control

we don't play the jags and they have the tiebreaker ... so if they win, nothing we did mattered.

and cincy had 2 games on us, so even if we beat the at arrowhead we still would need for them to lose.

the win by us and the loss by cincy yesterday put us back in control.

The hair started to stand up on the back of my neck last night in the 3rd Quarter of the Texan game as well.

The memory of that game will not go away easily.

JakeT 11-21-2005 01:14 PM

When looking at the wildcard picture - let's not forget another team that may Maddox their way in there.

Pittsburgh is 7-3 -

at colts
bengals
bears
@vikings
@brown
lions

Without big ben they could easily lose to the colts, bengals and bears. I'll need someone smarter and more dedicated than me to figure it all out but I think 10-6 can still make the playoffs.

Cinci and Pittsburgh can't both win wildcards, that's why no one is really discussing it. One of them is going to win the division and the other is then in the wildcard hunt.

Yeah I know -- my point is I think Cinci may win the division and we could be competing with Pittsburgh for the final wilcard spot.

I agree in that I believe we still have a solid shot at winning the division. All of this wildcard talk is almost as bad as discussing next years draft, IMO.
