Will Holmes make it on the Ring of Fame?

After LJ officially takes his job away and Holmes retires, will he make the Ring? And if so, how long will it take? I think he will, though I'm not sure how long it takes (organization standards) or how long it will take.

If LJ keeps on this path, he'll be there too.

Logical 11-21-2005 01:10 PM

Yes Priest should be a lock for the ROF

Phobia 11-21-2005 01:14 PM

DT was put up there the year after he died. It took Joe Delaney 21 years. Nobody knows what the ROF standards are. Not even Lamar.

RIP Joe Delaney and all, but it seems kind of ridiculous to compare JD with DT in any way other than the fact that they both had untimely deaths. Surely the Chiefs ROF has more to do with football accomplishments as a Chief than it does with tragic endings. You might be right that no one knows what the ROF standards are, but your example doesn't add much weight to that argument, IMO.

If I were on the selection committee, Priest would be at or near the top of my list of active player candidates (along with Will Shields and Tony Gonzales). I say he gets in.

Phobia 11-21-2005 01:28 PM

Oh - I'm not comparing anybody at all. Those are the only two timeframes I knew off the top of my head.

I don't think there are any "set" standards such as there are for Canton. That was my point.

gblowfish 11-21-2005 01:35 PM

He'll probably make it....

After Carl Peterson
and Denny Thum
and Bob Gretz...

And any of the other front office bozos who believe they should be up there.

After the put Steadman the Suit up there this year, that whole thing means nothing to me anymore. It's tainted as far as I'm concerned.

nychief 11-21-2005 01:36 PM

dumb question.

Lurch 11-21-2005 01:40 PM

The only question is, when? I'd say within a year of his official retirement. That's what he deserves.

CoMoChief 11-21-2005 01:42 PM

If Carl Peterson makes it up there (the ROF), I'm going to hire a special ops militia to sneek in there at night time to take it down how ever many times they keep putting it back up there.

My bad. Sorry for the misinterpretation. I've never heard of any standards either.

KCTitus 11-21-2005 01:45 PM

Since Holmes holds every rushing record for KC, I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed.

KC Kings 11-21-2005 01:46 PM

The ring of fame should be something sacred, not something that you let all of your star players into. If Priest retires, I don't think there is any way he gets in the hall of fame, and I think you need to do more than be a great player to get in the ring of fame. You need to have a great community presence or a tragic death to push you over the edge.

The only current ring of fame player we have is Tony G, in my oppinion.

Dunit35 11-21-2005 01:47 PM

Hes in.

BigChiefFan 11-21-2005 01:48 PM

After they added Jack Steadman to the ROF, they tarnished it a little for me. That said, Priest DESERVES to be in the ROF.

How can you say that about Jack? I bet if you asked 100 people the first thing that somes to their mind when you say "Director of Player Personenel", at least 98 would say Jack Steadman.

I think Will Shields is as deserving as Tony G. He's set the all time game in a row streak for a Chief, he's been NFL man of the year for community service, multiple pro bowls, spent his whole career as a Chief, etc.

He'll go up for sure.
After Peterson, Thum and Gretz
:p

Well, he's certainly the first thing that comes to my mind whenever someone says "shitty Chiefs teams". So maybe he does deserve it.

Yeah - there is no rationale for not doing it.

An ugly off season spat over SB money could change that.

Agreed, anything less is unsportsmanlike conduct........

I know of one Priest doesn't have. The one LJ got last night.

He doesn't hold the most yards in a game record.

I hope this was sarcasm, because the stupidity would be far too profound especially given your post about the only current player that is deserving is Tony G.

He never did. Word held it until last night.

I thought the Steadman was a joke. I honestly thought it was a joke. I just vomited.

If Steadman deserves to be up there, then so do I. I've done a lot less damage to the team than he did.

As for Priest, he should decline if he'll go up there next to Steadman. If Steadman wasn't on there, and let me say 'Steadman' one more time just for emphasis, then Priest is certainly a strong candidate. I wouldn't have an issue with him making it, but he should be in line behind Shields and Gonzalez at the moment.

Steadman on the ring is a disgrace. Getting on the ring because you made your old buddy Lamar a bunch of money is not a good enough reason. He ran the Chiefs into the ground and he gets "honored" for that. Right next to DT. Shame on them.

mcan 11-21-2005 04:34 PM

absolutely he will. He leads the Chiefs in rushing yardage and touchdowns... ALL TIME! He will definately be in our ring. Probably about 5 years post retirement...

Sully 11-21-2005 04:35 PM

Okoye is up there,right? ( I honestly can't remember)
If he is, then Priest definitely should be... that is comparing apples to apples, and the end of the story.
Next.

KCChiefsMan 11-21-2005 04:48 PM

Priest should definately make the ROF, the Chiefs all-time rusher and probably TDs too, Will Shields should make it as well as Tony G.......T-Rich would be the only other player who should be in consideration

Terribilis 11-21-2005 05:12 PM

So is priest is worthy of Canton?

Bowser 11-21-2005 05:19 PM

Steadman being in the ring is akin to taking a big steamy dump in the middle of a rose garden.
