FOOD: What do you do when it's 10 degrees outside and you need BBQ?

Well... I need BBQ, and there's nothing in the 'Burg I care to eat. It's too cold to smoke.

Hammock Parties 02-19-2006 02:23 PM

They sell BBQ chicken at the grocery store usually.

Bwana 02-19-2006 02:23 PM

You sack the F*** up and get on it. I do it all the time.

Go to Bryants.

You have to since you live in Siberia.

Fire Me Boy! 02-19-2006 02:26 PM

Unfortunately, Bryants isn't an option... I'm not driving an hour for BBQ. Perry Foster's here in town used to be really good, but the last time I was there it was damn near inedible.

Phobia 02-19-2006 02:26 PM

I fired up the smoker Friday. Of course, it was 20 degrees warmer. But 30 was no picnic.

luv 02-19-2006 02:27 PM

My mom will cut up some ribs, throw them and some BBQ sauce in a crock pot, and cook them that way. They actually come out pretty good.

Fire Me Boy! 02-19-2006 02:27 PM

Phob, I've smoked in 30-degree stuff too, but it's 17 degrees right now and the wind is killer.

PastorMikH 02-19-2006 02:27 PM

But what do you do when the State Fire Marshal and the Governor say no outside fires? :banghead:

Skip, it's to the point where I don't even think about it. If it's below zero and I want some tasty Q, by God I just fire things up and get after it. Things take a little longer to cook when it's this cold, but I get the job done.

Fire Me Boy! 02-19-2006 02:30 PM

Well, much to my chagrin... I have the pork butt in the oven. However, I refuse... REFUSE... to try and trick my tastebuds with liquid smoke.

If I had something to smoke today I'd do it. It's not like I have to camp out controlling the temperature any longer.

WTF!! Say it isn't so! I have had many a meal at Perrys and have never had a bad one. What happened, why was it bad?

The meat was tough and undercooked and the sauce was down right NASTY. I, too, have had many quality meals at Perry's, but it'll prabably be a while before I'm back in there.

Just tell me the beans have NOT gone to hell as well or I'm checking out. The guy had the best beans on the Planet.

Fire Me Boy! 02-19-2006 03:05 PM

I can't say they were bad. I didn't have them that day.

Rausch 02-19-2006 03:27 PM

Just BBQ'ed brats last night.

In shorts, with beer in hand.

Ya' poosay...

mike_b_284 02-19-2006 03:30 PM

slab of ribs on a broiler in the oven isn't too bad. Where do you live? there's got to be another bbq joint somewhere close by.

Warrrensburg, and aside from Perry Foster's, not any self-respecting BBQ lover would go in. Think BBQ equivalent of Fazoli's.

Just lit the coals 20 minutes ago.

Put on the meat just now.

"You're the FINEST cut of pork I've ever SEEN!"

"There has never been FINER country-style ribs!"

You always "put on" your meat whether the weather.

I'm boiling some water for the noodles. Spaghetti sauce is simmering.
