I can't wait for the hawks to visit the so-called 'allen east' and they lose, giving texas back the lead in the conference. :)

No. Wooly won't get fired. He'll resign after their Big 12 Tourney loss.

Texas on their home court and losing to OSU today will have Texas fired up. Texas is a dominating team with plenty of experience. Kansas is a team that has just recently come together. If Texas were headed to Lawrence, I'd say it would be a tough game, but on their own court, I see Texas with a W.

They'll take out that aggression on K-State in Manhattan Wednesday.

CoMoChief 02-20-2006 12:51 AM

Chalmers is a hell of a defender, and will give Gibson a run for his money. TX has the size advantage over KU, but TX defense isn't that great. KU has a top scoring defense in the nation or close to it. I think the X-factor in this game will be Julian Wright. If he can contain someone down low, and KU can somehow win the boards battle, I think KU can pull this one out. Will it happen? Time will tell, but I can say that it wont be a blowout by any team and I will go as far as saying that no team will win by more than 9 pts. I think its important for them to start off fast like they did against MU, and home reffing will take in account too. Most people will say that it doesnt matter if youre at home or not when it comes to officiating. I say that's supposed to be true but I think the fans can sway an outcome even though theorehtically they are not supposed to, but refs will make makeup calls all the time. I will admit that some of the calls MU got were a result of home court officiating, but then again MU should have gotten called for some stuff they got away with, so I think it goes both ways. But I do think its very important for KU to get off to a great start and get a big lead early.

hypersensitiveZO6 02-20-2006 12:51 AM

These freshmen are different than a lot of KU teams in the past. They're are playing well on the road. Anyway, most of the players on KU haven't played in game half as big as the Saturday Night Game. I see KU being a lot more fired up and ready to go. If Texas slips at all, KU will hit them in the mouth.

POND_OF_RED 02-20-2006 06:11 AM

college basketball is so even this year its too hard to predict games. all i know is with the talent that KU team has it would be a shame not to see them do anything in the tournament...and i am a huge MU fan too by the way. I think past the top 5 teams any game is gonna be pretty close...unless it is Missouri or Baylor...I hate to say it but I think these baby Jays have developed into some damn good players. it really scares me to be an MU fan the next 3 years...Oh well at least I have the Royals and Chiefs...they never let me down! :banghead:

Braincase 02-20-2006 06:38 AM

Could go either way... but I do expect to see Texas winning at the buzzer. The Baby J's have come a long way in a short amount of time, but the experience of Texas should be the trump card. But.. if Texas comes out in a slump, and KU comes out hot, it'll be a long frustrating evening for the Longhorns. Still, I'd have to predict Texas in a thriller.

DJay23 02-20-2006 07:27 AM

Texas will be more than ready. I'm as big a Jayhawk fan as anyone, but realistically, this is going to be a tough learning experience for the guys. I think we get down big early, but fight back late. There won't be enough time on the clock to finish a comeback. We end up losing by 10. Just the way I see it happening. Of course, I hope I am wrong!

ROYC75 02-20-2006 07:38 AM

Can't color me stupid,I expect Texas to win. But I also expect KU to be in it till the end with a chance to win.

I think KU has improved this much, the talent is there, the team play is getting better....... a close game, a game to learn from for the big dance.

Texas can't have much of a size advantage. We have Kaun-6'11", Wright-6'8", Jackson-6'8", Giles-6'10", and Moody 6'8". The guards are 6'1", 6'1" and 6'6". Experience and playing at Texas will probably do us in however. Should be a good game though.

jidar 02-20-2006 08:35 AM

If you were looking at it from a Texas perspective, this is just the type of game they might lose. Against a much lower ranked defensive powerhouse that's coming on strong. If Texas gets shaken out of their game by the KU D it's going to hurt their confidence a lot.

It could happen.

Lets hope for an ugly first 5 minutes.

Saulbadguy 02-20-2006 09:11 AM

K-State could do KU a big favor this Wednesday. Don't say it couldn't happen, it has before!

I dont think its gonna be as bad as you claim it to be. I think its gonna be a close game throughout the entire game. I dont think either team will win more than 9pts and thats including some potential free thrws due to some team being in bonus late in the game. These baby Hawks are playing some really good basketball. To be the best you gotta beat the best IMO, and Texas is up there with them in being the best even though they lost badly against OSU.

Just because they (TX) are ranked so high (well probably not anymore) doesn't mean KU will lose. Texas in my opinion is very streaky, and in my opinion besides a couple games, KU has played more consistent than Texas. A lot of people seem to forget that Syracuse a couple of seasons ago won a National Title with 2 star freshman and a sophomore. Against a KU team that alot of people thought would beat them, myself included. Anything can happen and a win against an inconsistent Texas team very and likely possible IMO.

Several things concern me:

1. We have not beaten anyone with the talent and depth of Texas.

2. The atmosphere will be as crazy as anything these kids have ever seen. There will be some shell shock.

3. You say we play consistent, but I disagree in part. Within a game we'll go on amazing runs on O, then completely disappear. A team like Texas could bury us for that. We are fairly consistent on D though. I'll admit I don't get to watch all the games, but from what I've read/seen this seems to be the case.

4. UT will have fire in their eyes. Their honor was taken by OSU, they'll want to take it out on someone.

5. Don't be surprised by a scare in the Baylor game. A close game or loss could seriously shake our confidence.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. I hope our guys have ice in their veins and play well on both ends of the floor. I hope everything goes KU's way, I'm just not going to get too upset, surprised, or disappointed if we do lose.

2. Texas doesn't even have one of the top five atmospheres in the Big 12. Mizzou was much crazier for these kids then UT will be.

4. You're right. They'll take it out on Kansas State on Wednesday.

5. If you take away the three-point shot from Baylor, they're done. I think KU's perimeter defense is good enough to do that early, build a lead, win by 20, maybe more.

KU will slaughter Baylor.

I think they'll lose a close one in Austin... just have a feeling UT will be fired up for the game and KU will turn the ball over enough to cost them the W.

Overall, I am VERY pleased with this season. All I have asked for this season is to see continued improvement; the freshmen have exceeded my expectations. I am also pleased to see Giles start to come around. Hopefully Kaun will start to get a killer attitude; if not, I sincerely hope Self inserts Jackson into the starting lineup w/ Wright, Rush, Chalmers, and Robinson.

I agree. I would say I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. I think a lot of KU fans aren't giving these kids and Self enough credit for what they've been able to do these past few weeks. Granted, they haven't beat the cream of the crop in Big 12 play (if there is a cream of the crop). But they have put together nine-straight victories over conference foes, which is impressive, especially starting three freshmen and two sophomores.

I've said all year, I have no expectations of this team. I thought after the KSU and MU disasters, this team was bad. Now, I think they're good. Pretty simple, really. They will lose again this year, probably two or three more times. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those came against Texas. I do, however, think they'll compete well down there, and I truly believe they can beat Texas.

Regardless, it would be unfair to judge this team soley on the outcome of that game, be it a 20-point loss, 20-point win or somewhere in between. But, many will do it, including most fans on this board.

That said, Baylor is first, and they're a capable team. Ask K-State and Mizzou.

Freshmen make me nervous. I could see a team of freshmen not having their head in it and lose against a fired up Baylor team. I hope Bill has them appropriately focused.

I think we can beat Texas too, but not if both teams are playing their best ball. I think in that case Texas has too much talent. No one in the Big XII is completely dominant this year. We need Texas to have a down night in some phase IMO.

banyon 02-20-2006 02:45 PM

On the plus side we have the edge in coaching by a good margin. Rick Barnes is terrible.

But I think their experience, combined with the bad matchup we have on PJ Tucker and home court will give Texas the W.
