Private Calls *67

Does anyone know any way to figure out the number that *67ed before they called you?

ChiefsFan4Life 02-28-2006 02:39 PM

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a *67

Unless it is an issue where the authorities need to get involved I don't know if you can

mike_b_284 02-28-2006 02:43 PM

I *69'd you back bitch. STOP PLAYING ON MY PHONE

when keeping it real goes wrong

KCTitus 02-28-2006 02:47 PM

Whenever the caller ID says 'private caller', I dont answer.

DMAC 02-28-2006 02:49 PM

well then, let me ask you this. if your caller id says "private call" does that mean that they pressed *67 before they called you?

Not necessarily

A friend of mine always shows up that way because his dad works for the government and can have it listed to not show

In fact, I think that's possible to civilians not working for the government as well

Inspector 02-28-2006 02:54 PM

You can just trace the phone wire back to the callers phone.

ROFL Like the old cans and strings!!

Bob Dole 02-28-2006 02:57 PM

Bob Dole will check, but the info probably gets dropped at the TELCO switch.

Bob Dole's CID reports a fake name.

Brian, that's not cool. Don't give out my number. I'm serious.

Bob Dole 02-28-2006 03:04 PM

The CO strips/discards the CID information before switching the call.

"Unknown" also. I figure if I don't know you, I don't need to talk to you.

jspchief 02-28-2006 03:31 PM

Answer the call, then hang up. Then press *57.

That will put a trace on the call. A recording will tell you if the trace is successful, and you will be charged a $1. After three successful traces, you can call the phone company to get the number.

So they have to call you 3 times before you can get the #?

The phone company probably won't give you the number until it's 3 times from the same source. It's basically step 1 in how they handle their phone harrassment issues.

Your phone company should offer a "security screen" feature that forces businesses to list a number.

I guess the question is, why do you need to know? If you're just dodging bill collectors, I suggest you learn to ignore private calls, or pay up. If it's something pressing, then I suggest you get the security screen service, or talk to your phone company about a trace.

Its a long story. I know the guy that is calling me. We are just trying to figure out where he is calling from. Again, long story

SquirrellyBastard 02-28-2006 04:06 PM

I see, he's in jail and you are trying to figure out which one. He probably can't tell you with a police baton upside his head..

I had a problem with my number showing up as "Private Caller" on people's ID. It was happening because I told the telephone company that I didn't want our phone number listed in the phone book. They flipped the wrong switch and it stopped my telephone number from showing up on caller id's..
