2006 College Baseball thread

The game is tied 3-3 right now, top of the 7th.

I heard Scherzer (sp) won't be pitching at all this series. Anyone know why? Pitt Gorilla?

I haven't heard if he had recovered from shutting his hand in a car door a couple of weeks back.

That is unfortunate.

5-3 Cats bottom of the 9th.

alanm 03-24-2006 08:58 PM

So who won?
BTW # 2 Nebraska starts a 3 game series against Kansas tomorrow with a double header at 1. :thumb:

Noone yet. 2 outs though. 1 out away from a 5-3 K-State victory.

By the way, the K-State women just beat the NU women to advance to the WNIT Final 4. :)

Saulbadguy 03-24-2006 09:01 PM

K-State wins 5-3. 16th win in a row.

It would be hard to argue against that point. The Shocks went out to California after that loss and pounded CSF I believe.

Well... Creightons streak is over they lost to Bradley 4-0 today. Don't know if they played in Omaha or at Bradley. And the Shockers lost yesterday as well.
The Big 12 should shake out as league play gets underway. KState has suprised me at how well they've started out.
Missouri has probably underachieved and more than likely overrated as to their ballclub. The were some peoples favorite to win the North.
Nebraska just may have the best pitching in the country this year. They are going to be tough to beat. And the kid Luke Gorsett who we got from some Juco in Kansas is leading the nation in HR's with 9 in 17 games. Gorsett has awesome power.
I'm not really sure who should be the favorite in the Big 12 South. I thought Texas would be but their playing so-so ball and stand at 11-5. They may still get it together. Baylor usually is pretty good and A+M has Nebraska's old pitching coach, Rob Childress, who took their head coaching job this year. But I haven't heard much about them so far.
I still think Nebraska is going to run away with the conference though.
They are just that good. Knock on wood.
:)

Actually I was in Omaha last weekend. Got snowed in Monday and Tuesday and finally got home Wednesday. Most of the snow went around Omaha. I think they only got about 7" total. The middle of the state got hammered which is why they had Interstate 80 closed. But the snow in Omaha never stuck to the streets or sidewalks. I missed all the TRich stuff though.

Saulbadguy 03-25-2006 08:42 AM

We'll see. NU visits Manhattan next weekend. I don't think K-State will challenge for the conference, but damn, they are playing well. I just hope for the Big XII tourney this year.

alanm 03-25-2006 12:30 PM

Nebraska up 4-0 against Kansas on a Grand slam by Luke Gorsett. Bottom of the 1st, No outs and now the next guy up just singled. Gorsett has 10 hr's in 18 games. :thumb:

Saulbadguy 03-25-2006 12:43 PM

Perhaps this should just be the "2006 College Baseball thread".

Saulbadguy 03-25-2006 02:19 PM

Game 2...0-0 going in to the 2nd.

alanm 03-26-2006 12:10 AM

The Huskers take 2 from Kansas today 9-2 and 4-1 to go 17-2 on the season. :)

HemiEd 03-26-2006 06:18 AM

I doubt the Shockers will be #11 much longer after dropping two in a row to SIU at home.

Saulbadguy 03-26-2006 08:41 AM

Our pitching got shelled yesterday. MU won 9-5.

Creighton got back on track yesterday to even the series against Bradley with the rubber being played today at 1.
Creighton was ranked 27th last week but should move up in the poles they sit now at 16-4.

HemiEd 03-29-2006 04:49 AM

They lost in 11 innings.

Saulbadguy 03-29-2006 09:49 PM

Wichita State is getting pounded by KU.

Is this the end of the line for WSU baseball?

Boozer 03-29-2006 10:05 PM

My Devils are up to tenth in the country after splitting with Oklahoma and sweeping Penn State. I got to see the win against Oklahoma in the St. Pat's green hats and socks.

Heh.

Which reminds me, when I was watching the local sports in Wichita, they were saying something like that Turgeon is high on Oklahoma's coach search list.

alanm 03-29-2006 10:12 PM

The Huskers got back on track today beating No Colorado 9-1 after losing the final game against Kansas Sunday, a game where they went 1-16 with men in scoring position. They lost 7-6. Yesterday was Freshman day when all the kiddies played and they lost to No Colorado 5-2. I guess today they got back down to business. :)

I still don't think Creighton has lost a game since they opened with 3 straight loses. I'll check when I get home from school. But they have to be at least 16 or 17-3.

He seems to have dropped off the radar for the ASU search. That's too bad, I really wanted him. Oklahoma is a much more prestigious job, good for him if he can get it.

Things have really changed in Nebraska. Have the fans gotten behind baseball yet? When I used to travel to Nebraska, it was all about Big Red Husker Football.

I'd say so, ever since they moved to Haymarket Park in 2001 they've been drawing good, the place was crazy for the super regionals last year. They've taken over the CWS games that NU has played in the last few years as well.

We still like football too. :)

Nebraska historically has always been a big baseball state. They've always produced Div 1 talent but that talent always left the state when John Saunders was the HC at Nebraska. He alienated the HS and American Legion coaches. That all changed when he was fired and Dave Van Horn took over. Since then the Husker program took off when the instate talent stayed home instead of heading off to Stanford, Arizona St ect. ect. And is continuing with Mike Anderson the current HC. Creighton has always had a good pick of the instate talent as well. For such a small state Nebraska has a unbelievable number of players in MLB HOF. 20 some odd I believe.

I have always wanted to go to the CWS, someday I will. I used to go to the National Baseball Congress games in Wichita. Good times, you can watch baseball around the clock for a couple of weeks.

Couldn't make it. The Lady Cats played tonight in the WNIT Championship, so I went there instead with 13,000 other crazed Wildcats. I bet our baseball stadium was mostly Husker fans. Haha. Cats win 11-5. I'll be at the game tomorrow, though.

The Huskers sweep Missouri this weekend for their 6th win in a row to take sole possession of 2nd place in the Big 12 behind Texas. Huskers stand 24-5 and 7-2 in Big 12. 1/2 game back from Texas only because Texas has played more games. PBJ :thumb:

Pretty much. Although we've played 3 of the top 4 teams in the conference thus far. I thought we should have won yesterday, but who the hell knows what the coach was thinking when he pulled Hornbeck.

I think we will have better luck when we face A&M, OSU, KU, etc...

Wow, I must of missed a wild game. Earlier when I was home getting ready to head back to school the Huskers were winning 9-2 in the 3rd. Just got home and found out that they won in 13 over Iowa and the score was 16-14.

Course Tuesday's being kiddie day when all the freshmen play it doesn't really suprise me. The main thing is that they won. :thumb:

Weekend update. Huskers sweep aTm this weekend and win their 10th in a row. They're 28-5 and 10-2 in the Big 12. Big week coming up, Game Tuesday against Creighton and then the big series next weekend in Austin againt Texas.

HemiEd 04-16-2006 02:17 AM

Shocks may be breaking out of the long scoring slump. They run-ruled the MSU Bears 16-5, to take the first two games of the series.

I saw that. I wonder what type of implications that could have down the road come tournament time. The travel cutoff time rule is just stupid. Did they have to be home in time today to hunt Easter eggs? Watching Missouri play Oklahoma at the moment. Missouri is winning 3-2 in the 6th.

alanm 04-18-2006 11:28 PM

Nebraska beats Creighton tonight to extend their win streak to 11 and go to 29-5 on the season. They play Nebraska-Kearney tomorrow and then get ready for the big series this weekend against Texas. :thumb:

HemiEd 04-22-2006 03:24 AM

Shocks are out of the slump. They run ruled first place Bradley 10-0. They are going to Nebraska and Play the Huska's on Tuesday IIRC.

HemiEd 04-22-2006 09:18 PM

Shocks win the second game in a wild one, 19-13. They were down 9-2 and came back with 10 in the 6th.

alanm 04-22-2006 11:01 PM

Nebraska beat Texas today. The rubber game is tomorrow. If Nebraska wins the Big 12 is tied.

Wow, Huskers "Piss Pounded" the Shockers, 11-0. Kudos to Nebraska.
Of course, the Shockers did not use one of the regular starters and they are mainly concerned with Valley play. :D

I had to head back to school when it was 5-0 in the 7th. So I missed all the extra scoring. The freshman pitcher for the Huskers had a no-no going into the 7th as well. This winning is all well and good but doesn't mean squat until tourney time and the regionals. That's when you have to win. But it will be nice going in as a high seed.
